Morroco did very well to reach this far in the competition. Like us against Watford they were totally overwhelmed by France 3-0 in the 1st half, but tightened up somewhat to only concede one more goal in the 2nd half. After their performance against Jamaica, Colombia should be an easy walkover for England on Saturday in their quarter-final match, a game I will miss as travelling to a wedding at noon our time, a couple of hours away.
Colombia won't be easy at all. They will deny England time and space just as Nigeria did. They are also full of the dark arts, which is very unusual in the women's game, although it is creeping in more. Morocco were abysmal and France didn't need to break sweat. I think the Aussies will beat France.
Sweden completely dominating Japan. Pressing high and physically dominant. 2-0 after 57 minutes. They look a very difficult side to play, all be it a little dull, but very effective.
Great finish to the Sweden Japan game. Japan left it too late to make a difference. That free kick that hit the crossbar then the keepers head back onto the post and across the goal without going in was unbelievable. Will be a very interesting semi final between Sweden and Spain.
Matildas 0-0 with France at half time. France the better side for the first 30 minutes and the matildas took a bit of control after that. Both sides had 1 golden chance each. Sam Kerr still on the bench - hopefully she comes in soon.
Aussies remind me of the USA. Appeal for everything, very physical and well organised. The ref is giving them most of the 50/50 calls. Mind you, they should be ahead. France look ordinary.
In every other game VAR have intervened. Nothing this game, with the ref letting everything go. Aussie fans booing the girl on the receiving end of the studs up challenge.
Yes should have got yellow card out early on would have stopped some pretty shocking tackles. Think VAR has looked at a couple of challenges?
Up till now, VAR, wrongly imo, have been refereeing the game, instead of just pointing out clear errors. It's conspicuously quiet in this game.
