I think if we were to seek action over a verbal agreement we would look a little bit petty
Personally I hope we let it play out and if he goes to Chelsea then so be it
    No drama

there's only so long this can go on.

if chelsea string this out to deadline day we will obviously have no time to buy what we need.

we have basically sat on 59mil since July 1, got word of another 52mil since about July 15 and here we are a month later with absolutely no solutions.

I can only conclude none of the players really floats klopp's boat bar caicedo.

if I were lavia I'd not want to be sloppy seconds now but any sort of half decent advisor would tell him to look waht Chelsea just did to Adams and remember that you will be waking into a snake pit. it won't be anything like city

Nah….any acquisition of this kind for any corporation has to be justified. There would be a series of gates that it would need to pass. The don’t just sit on a board room with cigars and say ‘let’s just spunk 110m’.

    they literally do.

come deadline day people will be out and about doing all sorts of deals in a matter of hours and all this due diligence and careful medicals etc go out the window.

it's very very clear liverpool had the cash to meet Southamptons needs 2 months ago and the player if really wanted could have been in there in preseason from day 1.

we looked poor through preseason and now are likely to be on the back foot up to Sept 1. it is what it is.

as I said the worst case is Chelsea buy lavia then sit and play negotiations with Brighton up to deadline day while our offer stands prevent us form getting a real player.

it looks like Chelsea are just ringing up their mates in Saudi to sell another 5 players off and have all the power with caicedo if the player is really set on his "choice"

Brighton certainly don't need this to all fall through totally or for this to go to deadline day either. whatever about us they are the ones getting screwed. his former club have an absolute massive day day at risk as well

really think you are overplaying the Chelsea-Saudi link tbh as the 2 players they sold to Saudi teams went for perfectly reasonable fees imo the outlier one being Havertz for £65m,

I think the point is not the fee it is the ability of PIF to facilitate moves and manipulate the market to Chelsea and Newcastles advantage. It needs to be stopped

Klopp pretty much confirming Thiago going no where this summer. Good news that. Seems to be forgotten midfielder but his experience will be crucial this year. But if, but if he can stay injury free will be a big plus.

Meh, if his ego is that fragile he's gonna have a tough life.
He just needs to tell himself that he was first choice but negotiations broke down.
So we were prepared to pay more for Caicedo? In that case every player who is bought for less than another, or paid less money should feel demeaned.
All footballers know how this business works, if he wants the move and it comes about, he'll get over it.

People need to show that PIF have any say in who Clearwater invest in because otherwise this is just 2+2=5

Yes, there is mate - how do you think auctions work? In fact, though I'm no lawyer I'd be interested whether Liverpool have grounds to sue Caicedo's agent(s0 IF they were given verbal assurances of the player's willingness to move to Liverpool should they win the bid.

Presumably, with the epic amounts of cash involved, Liverpool have recorded all phone calls. I know that was standard practice for our conferences and Zoom calls and suchlike when I was in management dealing with amounts minuscule to these in comparison.

I expect it signals we're not buying any more midfielders this summer (or indeed anybody), but after this episode I don't care, or even blame the club at all. For once. :emoticon-0138-think

We have no grind with Brighton. I think we should make any agents sweat a bit. The ****s.

I think we have over £400m or so of wiggle room left to play with under FFP (more including wages). Chelsea are apparently maxed out. We can still comfortably go out and buy Lavia (if he'll still come) and a £60m defender, then still fulfill our promise on Caecedo should Chelsea implode (they won't, and we won't buy all those players, but that's beside the point). It's Chelsea in Limboland atm, not us, especially if they buy Lavia too. That's some firesale they'll have to have before the window closes - wonder if a cheeky bid for Colwill is out of the question? :emoticon-0145-shake

they will be fine in FFP terms this season as incomings are amorised over period of their contract but all sales count fully in that year .Their FFP problems occur if they have a season without big sales .From outside it looks basically it looks like a giant ponzi scheme.

Interesting thread on that point. looks like there will be a firesale at some point, though as MITO alludes to they may offload to friends in the arab league at inflated prices to get around it. As it says in the thread, they're already awaiting punishment and may be thinking that they may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb. Pack the squad with 8-9-year contracts now in anticipation of a lenghtly transfer ban. That and you have to factor in that Boehy has taken this completely personally, which may be thrilling for Chelsea fans and neutral onlookers, but can be used to our advantage if we're cute until the end of the window.

In other news though, evidently Lavia is in London today for his medical. And that is the utter tragedy of this episode, not Caecedo.
