Should be a much better season in the top tier this time around. Plus the format has been changed making it bigger then a different ending to the season with league winners and then national title winners. Last time we were in the top tier we were a game in hand and only 2 points of the top of the league when we had catastrophic injuries to 60% of the first team squad. The end was in sight for Bielsa so he was forced to use our kids which in turn meant they played little football as they sat on the first team bench and were not allowed to play at all. So the U18/16s were used which meant we were relegated. Be interesting to see who features for the 21s this season and who goes out on loan. Will McGurk be sent out on loan will Amari Miller show what he can do consistently. Will Noseph be in the first team squad forcing the 2 new 16yo kids to go straight into the 21s. Will Sonny Perkins be around?
The season opener gets underway ay 7pm and will be played at the AMEX Training Centre, with Michael Skubala’s side looking to get off to a positive start. Having won promotion from Premier League 2 Division 2 last season via a convincing play-off final victory against Nottingham Forest at Elland Road, the Whites will now play in a newly reformed league structure. The format is now that all Category One academies will play within the same league for the forthcoming campaign. There are 26 teams within the division, with each team seeded into different pots to decide their opponents over the season. The Whites will play 20 matches in that period and at the end of the season, the top 16 sides in the table will qualify for an end of season play-off. Whoever finishes top of the league will play the side in 16th, the team in second will play 15th, the side in third will play 14th, and so on…
Will the 21s be impacted through August as we don’t really have a first team squad sorted until the end of the month? Gray, Gyabi and Perkins around the first team so not going to be available. Joseph out injured…….
Likely another relegation coming for the U21's Doc after fighting hard to get back in the top Division last season. That said it will be a chance for the U16 & U18 players to step up and show what they can do.
Great win but we really did use kids Leeds United Under-21s began their Premier League 2 campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion in a Friday night encounter on the South Coast. A superb hat-trick from Luca Thomas and a stoppage time finish from Morten Spencer secured the points, in a thoroughly entertaining match.
Leeds: Christy (C) (GK), Ferguson, Debayo (Jenkins 68’), Monteiro, Mullen, Moore, Crew, Douglas, McFadden (Carole 45’), McGurk (Coleman 45’), Thomas (Spencer 87’). Subs not used: Ombang (GK). I'm guessing McGurk is on the bench tomorrow. I'd totally forgotten about Jenkins. It's a while since I watched him, but he always impressed me as a DM. Anyone got an update on him?
At 2-2 we played with 10 men after receiving a red card, it was something like 5 minutes into the second half
Scum 1 - 2 Leeds at Old Toilet. Scum got their goal in injury time and had a player sent off late too. Leeds missed a penalty (as we do too well).
