Bellingham wanted to move to Madrid, plus is on 350k a week so made no odds. Plus we hadn’t sold henderson and Fabinho at that point.
Well, which would you have preferred? Bellingham OR Both Macca & Szob (and some change left over for another player) . Personally I prefer M&S to just Bellingham and I think they made the right call there. That's not to say I wouldn't have loved to get Jude, because he would have been an excellent signing,
Bellingham and Caicedo play different positions! AMC and Zobo were considered better value over Bellingham. Then Fabinho and Hendo left. It really isn't that complicated.
You are supporting my point. I would prefer we build the team for that money than spunk it on one player
Caicedo will not guarantee success for Chelsea or anyone. Every disappointment is a blessing in disguise.
I'm not an expert on other teams but two names that have come up with us linked to them before that combined would probably be less than £110m C. Doucoure, and Pair of Shoes (Perr Schuurs can play RB or CB)... although I think the latter is probably bound elsewhere in England now. Ridle Baku was someone being linked to other top clubs in England earlier in the season. I don't know much about him, but from what I read he sounded pretty good. I can't say I've ever seen him play though.
Remember that a 100m acquisition will appear on the books as £385k per week plus the salary; so £150k per week is an outlay of £535k pw If Bellingham is on £350k plus, he’d cost c. £735k pw. If Szob and Macca cost us £110m and bothe have a salary of £130k each, the pair would cost us around £680k pw - so we got two midfielders for less than the price of Bellingham and from what I’ve seen, Macca is as good as Bellingham….early days I know. I think that the Bellingham discussion is over. Even if he wanted to come, which i doubt, we made our choice.
No. I'm completely bemused! Originally £100m is far too much for a player and we need to strengthen the team. Fair enough, that is sensible. We spend that money on 2 solid midfielders. Subsequently we lose the entirety of the rest of our midfield and when it is even more important to spend prudently to invest wisely, suddenly now is the time to find £100m for a single player??? Our shrewd image in the transfer market is up in smoke at the moment.
I don't think it was ever about having the funds, it's about what the club consider value for money. As I've repeatedly said this summer, it isn't just about the transfer fee either, it's the player package. Bellingham wasn't just £100m, it was also massive wages. As a package, Caicedo would be cheaper. However, it was never a case of Bellingham or Caicedo; different players and positions. Just seen this take on TicToc and thought it was interesting... https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJpRyLJB/
i can't be arsed to get into a lot of the arguing but if we have £100m to spend we might as well paid the £50m Saints wanted and used the other £50m to add defensive cover. ps i rate Caicedo
If we only get one midfielder, I don't want Lavia. If we end up getting two midfielders and one of them is Lavia for £50m, that would be fine. I just don't want him to be relied upon every week. We will turn him into another Michael Owen. Doesn't even have to be another DM alongside Lavia, because Macca could play that role occasionally. So two Midfielders, sure get Lavia for £50m! One midfielder, I don't want Lavia. Ultimately though, Klopp hasn't been returning my phone calls, so I don't get a say in the matter.
