Surprising given his ability that it’s been virtually silent on anything with Piroe… Hoping we’re pulling a classic Saints “playing cards close to chest” transfer…. Looking forward to grainy photos at random hotel…
We should not be turning down c. £13m for Ché Adams with one year left on his deal. Let's see if we can stoke up a bidding war quickly after this weekend.
Would rather Che sign a new deal but if that is a no go then £13m seems decent. Piroe wouldn't be too much more.
Cash in on Che and give the money straight to Swansea for Piroe. No delays. Get to him before Leeds do (who aren't being helped by Chelsea pulling out for Adams).
Yeah what's the situation anyway? Has a contract offer ever been made? Or has he stated that he outright isn't interested? Bit strange for him to seemingly pledge his loyalty at the end of the season, whilst refusing to sign a contract. Of all the Prem clubs hovering, it's only really Everton where I think he would get regular game time.
If we assume he got a wage cut on relegation then I expect he won’t extend on those terms and we won’t be increasing them back up the PL wages. And he was probably after an increase on his pl wages anyway
And even with a significant raise, Piroe would be lighter on the wage bill than Che is. Imagine the ship for re-signing Che sailed when we got relegated, because we can't realistically re-sign him unless it's for a major pay cut, and he has no real incentive to agree to such. And even his relegation wage cut likely leaves him on a number that is unaffordable beyond this year. 40% cut on ~50k a week would still be 30k, which is miles beyond the pay scale of even big spenders at this level.
Had a look at some figures online. Might also explain why Downes is a loan with an option since he’ll be on PL wages and we can’t commit to offering him a long term contract that he will sign without promotion edit: figure I found for Downes was 25k which should fit but sounds like it would be top end. Seems low for a PL player. That or we got very loose on contracts for average players since I’m sure the likes of Stephens and McCarthy were on double. Might go some way towards explaining our issues
Yeah, it's why I was pretty blasé about selling. The gap between PL/Championship revenues (and consequently the gap between PL/Championship wages) is massive at this point. Even if every player has a wage reduction clause, and even with the relatively-lucrative first year of parachute payments, you need to make a lot of cuts. The entirety of Swansea's wage bill (not just the playing staff, and including social security, pensions etc) was £26m for the year ending June 2022. Ours was £113m (and we had worked to reduce it!).
Jwp, lavia, adams, kwp, tella, manning, sulemana - and that is just the ones we have heard about so far
