Liverpool have really ****ed this. Going to end up going back to Saints and claiming they won’t go up £3m to meet the asking price for Lavia, when everyone’s just seen them bid £111m for Caicedo
Depends on these conversations Wilcox has supposedly had with the players. If we told Lavia £50m and, so far, he hasn’t kicked up a fuss because that hasn’t been met, if we raise the bar and Liverpool say no then he might
We definitely shouldn't do that imo. We've clearly told him that he can go once our figure is reached and to change that now would be poor form I think. As I mentioned earlier too if we want to continue buying young players with potential and selling the idea of them getting a big move then we shouldn't be seen to be acting unreasonably.
Seems if all the noise is to be believed (and I take some with a pinch of salt) Liverpool have put themselves in a bit of a bad position. It would be different if we had to sell (like is normal for a newly relegated team). We don't (for financial reasons...maybe FFP, but not the club finances). Moreover, Lavia's value wont deteriorate in a year and then Man City can get him for £40m and he would have been instrumental in our promotion (worth the £10 'loss'). They can no longer quibble over £2-3m either as the money is there. If they say 'he aint worth it' then what signal does that give Lavia? If I was Lavia I would prefer to work under Poch at Chelsea and live in London anyway. Still 100% he will go, but funny to watch it pan out. The best deals are always got when one party can genuinely walk away, and we can in this instance.
100% Liverpool have bent themselves over a barrel now. Their fans will go nuts if they end up without both
You know, Liverpool might have been better off going for the player that openly wanted to join them at half the price, rather than the guy that openly said he wanted to join Chelsea....
