Promise of game time is the only reason I can think of - and that's clutching at straws trying to think of a reason!!
Plus he’s on a good wage at Villa so would need to take a paycut. But remember RR told SL in private messages to get Nige so there could be something in it
LJ is part of our history, the old stadium is history, the old floodlights are history, Big John, Gerry and Norm are history, we can either love or hate but they are all memories, gone but not forgotten,I don't rate LJ but I have expressed my opinions and they are all based on on field activities and that is where it stops, he was well paid, he has gone, the club is strong, I, along with all on here support the club and express opinions about it, if Nige buggers off, so be it, he becomes history and the next genius is coming down the line, that is life.
Bristol City considering move for Oxford United star, reporter claims https://the72.co.uk/2023/08/11/bristol-city-considering-move-for-oxford-united-star-reporter-claims/ https://www.bristolworld.com/sport/...-brannagan-oxford-united-bristol-city-4251926
Only those (few on here) who were against him from the outset. Outside of this board, most City fans I know and speak to thought he did an OK job, until he didn't. The same view I had, it's only the few haters on here who won't give him any credit for anything good, only lump on the bad. Prime example above from Wiz, LJ didn't sign Alex Scott as he's head coach, and Tins is in charge of loan and youth signings, but when that get's played back about arguably, the 2 worst signings of 'the 65' the LOAN signings of Diony & Kent, it's back to LJ's fault... You couldn't script this....
That's more like the City of today, sign a PL player, nah, I'm alright mate, I can get another L1 player, thanks anyway..... Absolutely zero ambition!!
We don’t know that do we?, it’s all paper talk. Signing a PL player is always going be tricky, their wages are way out of our league
Where the haters fail to give credit, is LJ not only maintained our championship status 4 years on the bounce (more than any manager before him in recent times) but had us in and around the playoff places, no fear of relegation.. in fact most of the moaning was not actually achieving promotion!! And he had to sell his best players!!
Let's be honest, LJ has been around for a long time now, he has been the main man at, Oldham, Barnsley, Bristol City, Sunderland and Hibernian, 5 clubs, he has had 10 years, apart from the 'papa john trophy' what honour has he achieved with any of his clubs, none, no promotions, no playoffs, no league champions from any of the lower or Scottish leagues.
I could name you 4 that did, Alan Dicks, Gary Johnson, Steve Cotterell and Nigel Pearson, I could even throw in Terry Cooper.
Jamie Vardy, signed by Nige from Fleetwood Town for Leicester City, that is a good example of lower league signings, LJ made a good one with Adam Webster, so there are diamonds in the rough, if you find them.
I don't give a flying pig about LJ as I never tho, ught he should have been hired in the first place, but now that is all forgettable history for me - so let's move on please. The continual loss of our top players, only to be replaced with third tier hopefuls, is our present and the total lack of ambition is the daily mantra, which doesn't give me any hope for the future. The 5-1 romp over poor opposition in the Carabao Cup is nothing to get excited about because our next league fixture at Millwall will give us way more trouble and the Championship table is our bread and butter. Quite frankly I can see very little long term future for either Scott or Semenyo at Bournemouth, other than playing against some of the best teams in the world, as I see perennial relegation fights until the obvious happens. I understand that it is at least better than going somewhere more fashionable and sitting on the bench, but isn't that what awaited Antoine anyway? When I watch ex-City players showing their talent at the top table it makes me wonder why we seemingly only have the ambition to be a supermarket selling top class products but never seem to want to be a club keeping the best stuff that we have in stock on show every weekend. Based on a reported attendance of 27,000 versus Preston last weekend how on earth can we not afford to pay players to stay with us longer term? The temptation of playing home games in front of only 10,000 doesn't excite me too much but then again if I am getting 5 times the money I suppose it doesn't matter really. It just seems uncanny in my books that we keep coming close to danger with FFP when we sell all of our top talent and bring in garbage as replacements and yet still appear unable, or even unwilling, to up the ante to get to where our beloved leader wants us to be - supposedly.
he was victim of the best players being sold .. look at a different angle we continued on with say all but one of the players we sold .. so no money to fund buying in .. but we have better than we could have bought! when you look at the curve diagram of results / position / finance.. side line goes up in 8 segments ..bottom line in 8 seasons .. it starts at bottom of zone 3 [ 16 games ] season 3 middle of zone 3, season 4 middle of zone 4, season 5 middle of zone 3 [ [ season was top 6 or so before last game/es falling to 8th ] ... then came covid but NP'S part season plus 2 is in bottom 2 zonesrising into third zone22/23
A quick glance at JGF’s thread highlighting 2021-2023 managers to lose their jobs highlight the fact that most are unsuccessful
I don't have an opinion on the guy, the period of August 17 to January 18 saw some great football, won't forget the cup run to the semi final, but I could name so many more but cant be bothered but it's unreal the amount of players he signed, most of them never got any game time at all, a lot of awful investments and complete waste of money, I'd probably say Tammy, Brownhill, Baker, were some of his best signings. Despite being financially backed, and apparently quite heavily by the Hibs board there have been some issues this season already for LJ. A 2-1 defeat away to an Andorran (I think) team in the Europa League or Champions League qualifier although they cruised the second leg, then a 2-3 home defeat to St Mirren on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership season last weekend isn’t exactly a great start. They have Motherwell away on Sunday. So sacked on Monday morning ?
