I saw a tweet the other day, that referenced The Athletic, that said City’s 20% sell on clause applies to them too. So if they activate their £40m but back next summer, then they actually only pay £32m. Not sure how accurate that is, but I wonder whether there is a tiny chance of Lavia holding out for that.
Imagine Lavia will go to Chelsea, or maybe even Brighton? Good of Liverpool to lead our player up the garden path all Summer and ditch him a couple of weeks before the end of the transfer window to pay the most ridiculously hyper inflated fee going, just hope he will focus his frustration at Liverpool and not us.
Last I saw Kudus was stalling on Brighton because they wouldn’t give him a release clause. So it wouldn’t exactly be usual And Lavia effectively does have a very open and public clause of 50m - which no one has met. If he had wanted one when he joined it would have been set at that as well because it is what nets us the same return as using the 40m buy back People are so determined to see the doom and gloom of seemingly every situation but have missed that we clearly haven’t been the unreasonable ones. Look at Brighton - they turned it into an open bidding war and only accepted one bid. Didn’t let the player decide. It very much seems like we will accept any bids of what we want rather than trying to whip them higher And as I’ve said - I’m sure if Lavia had a formal release clause it wouldn’t have mattered as no one would have met it yet. And would be less likely to meet it as they are usually paid all up front - which I doubt we are seeking at the moment
As others have said though, Brighton now worry me. They are the 'old' Southampton, have a load of money to burn. Can see at least one of Lavia, KWP or Alcaraz going there. Heck I even see one of the others we don't want going there. 3 weeks today is my Birthday and the end of the window. Scary times (no it isn't a big birthday, but they all add up lol).
I’d assume Lavia has his sights set higher after Liverpool interest. Chelsea or Man United (who are opening slots in midfield and might have stayed out of the race as they assumed like most did that the Liverpool deal was inevitable) Also, as is clearly the message here, he isn’t going to go to a club like Brighton without a release clause - which they don’t do We’d probably quote them more for Alcaraz than they have bid for Kudus and they probably won’t see that as value. But who really knows anymore
That’s because Saints fans haven’t stopped laughing that a club would actually pay real money for Adarma! LOL
Here's hoping that at some point in the PL next season, Lavia megs Caicedo and then gives a little wink to Klopp
I can only assume Lavia to Chelsea gets done today as well ? Unless they have an even higher profile target for a much higher fee to placate damaged egos
Enjoying Skys ridiculous notion that Kane should stay in England to try and be the PLs all time top scorer rather than go to a European giant, win silverware and have a decent crack at the CL. He’s absolutely doing the right thing, even if Bayern is basically auto trophies, he’s been playing hard mode all of his career, time to stack the cards in his own favour.
Brighton won't spend that big. They'll buy someone from the Ecuadorian third division for £2.5m who is an absolute superstar by the end of the season.
Why is silverware, in a foreign country, for a cheat code of a club, something to be aimed at? I completely disagree with you. Only thing I can see that justifies Kane going, is Champion's League football. This whole silverware at all costs attitude is laughable. All time Premier League top goalscorer is an achievement that ranks almost higher than anything else as an individual player. It keeps Shearer's name relevant, twenty or so years after he retired.
I mean PL all time top scorer is a manufactured achievement anyway because they decided to reset the records in 1991. The true top scorer is Jimmy Greaves and even if he stays it is very hit and miss whether he reaches that. I think having a decent shot at the CL and winning silverware is far more important, but maybe that’s just me. Would be interesting to see what Shearer thinks is his biggest achievement, being the top scorer from 1991 - present or winning the PL.
How far off the record is Kane? He’s what 30? Could conceivably go to Germany for a couple of years then come back to Newcastle or something and break the record
