That makes no sense at all. So 45mill is acceptable but 50mill isn't? Also, the asking price is so high because of the player Lavia will become in 2 or 3 years time. He's excellent now. He'll be world class in a few years. Their loss.
I saw someone suggest that the reason chelsea adjusted their sell on for tino was to get Lavia as a lower price. I actually think that report was more to do with the reported sliding scale based on fee needing to be checked and calculated with them rather than them actually changing anything
They’ve got some kind of block at that number. Exactly why I am not sure. Maybe because it is what they received for Torres back in the day and are still using that as a benchmark Or maybe it is similar to how Man City for ages moved heaven and earth to make sure they didn’t pay a fee higher than Man United’s highest ever fee. Despite massive fees and wages all across the squad they seemed to want to be able to say “at least we haven’t paid more than they have for a player”. Changed with Grealish. But they did it again this summer - it seemed like their sole aim in negotiations was to get their defender fee to be lower than Maguire’s so they wouldn’t have the highest fee paid for a defender. That seems to be why the deal took so long to finalise when it was clear he was going there for something like two months Seems like some clubs have weird hang ups and blocks. I guess we did for a while when it came to breaking our highest fee paid because it nearly always was a disaster
Their squad is small isn't it? I can only think of Ings and Antonio now that Scamacca has gone. I suppose Bowen can do a job but he's not a striker. If anything, Ings is more likely to want to stay unless they bring in a couple up top
No idea where you’re getting this from given we paid 60m for Alisson, 75m for vvd. 68m for nunez. 54m for keita. 60m for szoboslai just this summer.
Primarily a central attacking midfielder and potential makeweight in a deal to take Paqueta for City. Can’t say I’ve ever really paid attention to Paqueta but he doesn’t seem like a 70m move to city type.
I wasn’t particularly clear - a block on paying that for Lavia. Not paying that in general. Indeed your figures are potentially further explanation of the point I tried unsuccessfully to make. “Why would we pay the same as we got for Torres for a 19 year old with one season”. “Why would we pay 2/3rds the Van Dijk fee”. Or indeed “why would we pay 15m more than World Cup winning Mac Allister”. Liverpool seem to have a mental block about paying 50m FOR LAVIA. Specifically. And their stance is really baffling when you consider they are apparently only 4-5m short and received many millions more than they ever could have expected to get for Henderson due to Saudi Arabia. And I assume Lavia will be on lower wages. As you acknowledge above their approach to this negotiation has been baffling. Only arrogance and hubris can really explain it. They really thought they could be bullies and wait for Lavia to go on strike. But it seems like he was always aware that other clubs would eventually come in and that saints rejecting Liverpool wasn’t saints shutting down his only exit - which seems to be another difference with Caicedo and Chelsea
Think this is spot on. We already know Liverpool are one of the shadiest and scummy clubs when it comes to transfers. They use their insane media presence to unsettle players and try and get better deals. Glad we are sticking to our guns here and I sincerely hope he goes somewhere else. Would be great to see Liverpool drop down the table
Fair enough. Who knows. Seems like club has a fee and wanted to negotiate and in most circumstances teams start low, selling club start high and you end up meeting somewhere (exactly like you did with JWP). But seems like insistent on 50m and lfc just been slow in realising that thinking can still get it cheaper. Clubs been iffy negotiating deals last couple years tbh. 3 DOF’s in that time frame hasn’t helped. Don’t know anything about the new guy we have so maybe he has an ego and doesn’t want to ‘lose’ by paying the asking price.
Same. I'd hazard a guess that Pep knows a little more than me, but City feel weaker than last season to me with the players that have left compared to those that have come in.
I dunno I don't have the dislike for them that most people here seem to. Don't think they're doing anything particularly different to most other clubs though.
