Chelsea will offer better terms and london is preferable to Liverpool. It’s just whether one offers more football maybe? And Klopp vs Poch. Exciting choice for the lad. If anything he should be grateful that we dug our heels in as he might be getting an even better offer out of it. Or maybe Chelsea would have come in and matched a lower bid had we accepted it . Who knows
Out of interest - what are examples of Liverpool walking away when another club has got involved? Obviously don’t follow them closely enough to know
Must admit it’s more a lot of hearsay and reports and stuff so maybe should say take with a pinch of salt. Were linked a lot with mount and apparently walked away from that one. Same with Bellingham once was known he wanted to go to madrid. But looking at a lot of our previous signings, we don’t often see other teams also linked with bids for them. Don't remember last time saw us going head to head with another club for a player
I did mean struggle for promotion but TBH losing the best players from a poor squad could lead to anything really. The Champ is very competitive and as weve seen the wrong players can't even beat Gillingham. We started the season with a squad that could win the league but where we will be in 3 weeks is very much in the air. Recruitment fails more than it succeeds recently so I think the concerns are valid.
The hearsay largely being from the Liverpool centric press...? Liverpool fans are hilarious with the genuinely held belief it is some kind of mythical club that players have some ultimate desire to play for above all else. Hendo clearly shows us that modern players follow the money. If Chelsea pay the £50m and offer a good salary then he will play for them, regardless of the ringing of you'll never walk alone through his lug holes. The same reason mount and bellingham are playing elsewhere. Liverpool isn't the ultimate destination, never has been, never will be. Sometimes you pay more than others will for a specific player, sometimes you don't.
I would suggest he is just looking for someone to bite. There is no other explanation for taking these positions.
On the BBC Solent this morning they were saying Bournemouth have had an offer accepted for Scott as well as Aarons. Seems likely that today we see the sight of JWP holding up the claret shirt. Has there been any indication of the fee we are getting from any journalist that is connected to Saints rather than just the ones saying what West Ham want to be out there?
No, just from general stuff online. I’ve no idea who is a liverpool fan in the press tbh, don’t pay that much attention but if you can let me know which ones are then I’ll take their words with a pinch of salt. I don’t think anyone thinks Liverpool is a ‘mythical club’ as you put it. Players want to play for many teams and often will go with the highest bidder. We often can’t or won’t match those highest bid on fees or wages hence we walk away from the deals. We could have matched madrids bid for Bellingham but he obviously wanted to go to Dortmund so we pulled out. Sounds like we wanted mount but he wanted 350k a week and we were never going to pay that so probably pulled out. Lavia might start playing chelsea and lfc off against each other to get s higher wage and if that happens we’ll probably pull out because 1, chelsea will always trump us there, and 2, why would you want a player that doesn’t want to join your club?
If you walk away I suppose you can kid yourselves that the whole thing was on your terms, rather than criticise the mythical club for ****ing around far, far too long making incremental increases.
Would love to see The Bin Dippers miss out on Lavia, teach them to f*** about Various rumours on Twitter about Man Utd and a foreign team sniffing about too.....£££££££££
I only wish that Chelsea had come straight in with £50m, and we'd accepted it immediately. As it stands, I hope we reject the £48m, as it's kind of the point that it's £50m.
Don’t think you’ll find one person that doesn’t think it’s been a **** show of a negotiation and should have stumped up the money after bid 1 when was clear weren’t going to lower the fee.
Yow know what this feels like? The summer Poch left and Koeman arrived. Utter depression. Empty training field. Then players started arriving and it was the start of my favourite two seasons in recent times. #positivehaton
I'm pretty sure you're trying to get him to kick off which might help bring the fee down. Which may well work though I thought he'd have already done that by now tbh.
Yep. I’m not saying he was good last season or the season before. If you go back further I would have said he and stephens almost single-handedly kept us in the EPL. Like the rest of the squad he underperformed last year but I can look past that and see a player who is the club legend of his generation. He’s leaving the club it would be churlish to be critical.
