A win and into the next round.
I listened on radio shrew and fair play to them they gave a good account of the match and no whinging about refs etc.
Also saying how great it was for their young players to play in front of a packed ER.

my lads 8 and a keeper.

he always aligns his shoulder with the near post for positioning as an attack builds.

    meslier could learn from him

    Ratings from Leeds Live:
    28 Karl Darlow
Beaten by a deflection for the Shrewsbury Town goal, but a choppy debut for Darlow. Distribution with his feet did not look comfortable at any point during the evening and pressure only ever seemed to be invited when he was playing it within United's third. 5

    2 Luke Ayling (c)
One of the few players on the field who carried any kind of drive up the field in the first half. Kept asking questions of the away defence, even if his plans didn't always come off. Became a bigger force after the break until late on when he began to struggle. 6

    5 Charlie Cresswell
Settled into the game, but opening 10 minutes were sloppy. One heavy touch allowed Shrewsbury to get into the final third necessarily. 6

    4 Ethan Ampadu
Uncharacteristically loose with the ball, especially in the first half at centre-back. Much better as a midfielder, dictating play. 5

    33 Leo Hjelde

Another difficult game for the 19-year-old, who still has a lot of work to do if he's to convince as a regular starter for the Whites. Did not progress the play well enough down the left and watched Taylor Perry go by him far too easily before the opening goal. Hooked again at the break. 4

    17 Jamie Shackleton

Flitted about with his usual energy, offering options to team-mates. 6

    18 Darko Gyabi

Very shaky as he dropped in to collect possession from the defence. Too many errors have Shrewsbury sniffs of goal and undeserved territory. Another guilty of allowing Perry to go by him too easily before the opening goal. 4

    27 Ian Poveda

Another bright outing. Better in the second half, but keeps going by defenders for fun at any given moment. Standing ovation when he came off. 7

    22 Archie Gray

Another very competent display, but in a slightly more advanced role. So intelligent on the ball and off it when finding space to position himself. More of a goal threat. 7

    20 Daniel James

Still beavering away in the final third, looking for those opportunities to score or assist. Just can't quite find that quality needed. 6

    30 Joe Gelhardt

Flicks and tricks began to tell in the second half as he dropped deep and linked up play. Struggled in the first half as the lone frontman. 6

    Substitutes

21 Pascal Struijk (on for Gyabi h/t)

Right place and right time with the second goal. Brought some control to central defence. 6

23 Luis Sinisterra (on for Poveda 83min)

Late switch and a quick impact in the final third. N/A

25 Sam Byram (on for Hjelde h/t)

Again, a marked improvement on what Hjelde was bringing to left-back. So much more potent attacking the left flank. 7

26 Lewis Bate (on for Gelhardt 90+5min)

    Barely got a kick. N/A

Disappointing to note that our new keeper scored badly and was dodgy with his feet - does not bode well.

Hilda, Gabbi and Agadoo all scored poorly.

Yet again Poveda showing plenty of class and up there with Sinisterra and Archie Gray as been positives over the last few games

Hearing that Gnonto didn’t want selecting tonight and wants to leave, if true he can fook off

Mail reporting it but Leeds refusing the move unless valuation is met.

I know we were relegated but **** me, we signed some rotten eggs last season. Gnonto was supposedly one for the future, If Farke gets us top 6 this season he’ll deserve coach of the year sorting this disruptive bunch out.

At the moment FARKE has got 4 old lads from the promotion team, an ex academy old boy on a free and a couple of good signings and the rest are academy players. Lets hope Sinisterra stays, James sorts his end product out

Farkes as good as admitted he asked to be left out, just seen the interview, he said he can’t comment, he’s not injured but not available, it’s something he has no control over but at a later date he’ll possibly be able to speak about it

That will hurt this weekend with Summerville injured too

Yes, he was poor first half, really poor. Especially with his kicking.

    Don't agree.

Caught one corner easily and then punched another clear.

Conceded a goal but nothing he could have done about it on first and only viewing.

Distribution was fine until Gyabi starting f*cking up in front of him and that encouraged the Shrews to press a bit harder which led to one errant kick straight into touch and a couple of more hopeful clearances when no one was available to play out from the back. What's he supposed to do if everyone is marked and no one else is showing for the ball ?

To be honest he had bugger all to do and we didn't learn much if anything about his capabilities.

Poveda went down with a touch of cramp after a challenge and then played on before being subbed off.

Wouldn't have thought it was anything to worry about as he's simply worked his socks off for the full 90 mins.

Best player on the pitch by a mile was Archie Gray.

The lad is a super player and will just get better and better.

Darlow - 4. Terrible 1st half with his feet. Came for crosses well though. Not much to do otherwise.

Ayling - 6. Pushed out wide and forward again on the wing. Probably our most creative player at times in the first half but interspersed with the usual brain farts and poor passes.

Cresswell - 6. Sloppy opening. Gifted possession away dangerously once. Lost his battles too early on. Much improved after the first 20 minutes and the lad is very brave or very stupid at points.

Ampadu - 6. Certainly better in midfield after the break but was solid enough at the back too.

Hjelde - 4. The crowd did a job on him with the moans and groans every time he didn't play the ball to James. Noticeably went further in to his shell. He's not a left back and not good enough to start here.

Gyabi - 2. Terrible, awful, hooked at half time and rightly so.

Shackleton - 5. Lucky not to be hooked at half time but his 2nd half performance was good to be fair.

Gray - 7. Some lovely touches. Dives in to tackles a bit much. Looks a real talent. Ran the midfield especially when Ampadu moved in there with him.

James - 7. Quick, a real handful, tricky and relentless. His shooting is woeful.

Poveda - 8. Great feet. On this form, the nearest thing we have to a Pablo at the club. Got a standing ovation when he came off. (He took a knock but also went down with cramp).

Gelhardt - 5. **** in the first half. Really ****! Came to life a bit 2nd half but really needs to improve if he has a future here.

    Subs.

Struijk - 7. Shrewsbury is his level. Looked comfortable and got his goal. Played well.

Byram - 6. Much better than Hjelde.

Sinisterra - n/a. Showed good quality in the short time he was on.

Dramah and Bate came on in injury time.

If nothing is on then clear your lines. He failed miserably to do it until near half time when he eventually connected cleanly with one to ironic cheers from the kop.
