I think it's far too early to say still. Looking at the fixtures then September or October will be a good time to assess our promotion credentials. September in particular looks tough playing a lot of other contenders.
Hold up. Burnley are bidding 14m for this guy and have paid 15m for Berge but only bid 9m for Tella who was a key part of their side last season and scored loads of goals for them. This is pretty crazy
My optimism has drained away rather quickly after the last few days. We haven’t kept a clean sheet since March and I don’t think the next one will come any time soon.
Perhaps. Then why bid at all? If he’s not PL level then he’s not exactly going to be able to change a game in 20 minute substitute appearances (since I assume they wouldn’t be starting a non PL level player)
Because he was successful and knows the team/manager. Not thinking he is PL level and worth the (insert figure here) we were asking for him, doesn’t automatically equal not worth bidding what they were happy to pay for him.
Can’t see being a bidding war. Liverpool most likely walk away from the deal as haven’t wanted to get involved in any of that sort of stuff for players. Plus you’ve said want 50m so can’t see anyone bidding more. If you start rejecting 50m I imagine player and agent are going to be very pissed as prob have been given assurances will be accepted if meet the valuation.
Perhaps the bidding war is meant just to get it to the 50m? Because right now neither club has bid that. In no way was it said that Chelsea’s interest will take the fee above 50m. Saints will accept when it reaches that. They might even accept this 48m because there might be more favourable payment terms from Chelsea and/or a loan or youth player involved
I'd be surprised if you walked away now TBH. You obviously really want him or you wouldn't have made 3 bids. At the very least we'll get the 50mill we asked for. If anyone does bid 50 we won't reject it but we'll go back to the other club and see if they will raise their offer before accepting it.
Surely they won’t need to raise it if we accept 50. They will just match. Unless wages and signing on fee are proportionate to fee but I can’t imagine they are. Maybe agent gets a cut somehow? Can’t see it. 50 gets it done
Depends. Would be a change in how we work. We’ve generally walked away when other clubs have got involved, unless the player has stated only wants to come to lfc (vvd for example). Klopp wants players that want to be at lfc and having a player/agent play the clubs off against each other to get beat deal isn’t looked at fondly. Hence my thinking we’ll walk away unless Lavia/agent has said only wants to go lfc.
Ultimately… he’s ****ing worth it. Literally going to be one of the best DMs in the premier league for years to come. So they can ****ing pay the money
