... and Rosenior and his coaching staff did literally nothing about it all game (evidenced by them continuing to do exactly the same thing)! Rosenior was up in the stand, with Pardo next to him and a phone in his hand. Nothing changed. Utterly bizarre. Reminiscent, ironically, of McCann's stubborness with plan A.
Acun and Tan should maybe have more meetings with Liam then and tell him they're unhappy with the lack of entertaining football. If I remember correctly, Tan came out last season and said he wants Liam to be more positive. Nothing changed in our play once Tan said this.. I personally dont believe Liam has the capabilities to change the situation. As others have said, it seems that he has his own philosophy that he has 100% confidence in and that he believes its the players who cant deliver what he wants, rather than his philosophy maybe isnt that great. Even if we take away the pissing around at the back, as thats fairly simple to fix, the rest of our play is boring and lacks any cutting edge, thats been evident since Liam came in.
I just saw a clip of when Ingram had the ball for what felt like 2 or 3 minutes, and you can see Connolly I think it was making a run along their back line obviously wanting a ball over the top to run in behind, but Ingram either failed to see it or for some reason was told not to do it. Strange!
I get the beating the press as a tactic but if it doesn’t come we need to get players on the ball who are happy to carry it into midfield and find a pass. We need to have wingers ready to take the ball and look at beating their man. We also need to be prepared to miss out everyone and find Delap/Oscar and have midfielders ready to offer support. There are more ways to cut through the defensive lines than waiting for a press that never comes.
It may be that our targets Bird, wingers and No.10 (Twine) are what are needed to achieve this but I still think it can be done with Seri, Traore and Tufan.
That’s exactly it. Ingram repeatedly descended into a programming loop and simply didn’t know what to do. It got the stage in the second half when players were making runs - Covil darts inside, Christie bounds up the wing - but Ingram just wasn’t seeing it or able to respond, he got into a weird brain-freeze style trance. The system clearly wasn’t working last night. But also, Ingram was showing his limitations within that system. I doubt Rosie will have been impressed with him hanging on to the ball as long as he did.
Exactly. It's obvious what the players should be doing when in certain situations, and its easy for Liam to come out and indirectly blame them for not doing what he wants.. But he's the manager, he's doing the training and giving players instructions, he's also identifying players that can come in and play his system. End of the day Liam isnt doing his job properly if he cant get across his message to the players, its not the players fault. A handful of players maybe not grasping it, fine, get players in who can, but right now it looks like every player cant play this way. Thats down to the manager. I agree with you that experienced players like Seri, Traore & Tufan can easily play this type of football, the fact that they often look lost says it all.. the manager and coaches arent doing their job.
Indeed. I've heard Liam say a few times now that he wants players to make their own decisions, that he doesnt insist on always playing out from the back if it isnt possible. I cant believe that, on what we saw last night it looks like there is no plan b, its play out from the back and thats that. As I said yesterday, it took our GK coach to get up and tell Ingram to lump it forward, that was additional instructions, not something they've been working on previously. So yeah as you said, these problems are on the coach.
I’d love him here but he took Wolves from relegation fodder to 13th and only left due to the club’s financial situation. He’ll have better suitors than us.
Me neither but I guess we’ve got to give him time to settle in. We’ve a rich history of players starting badly and getting good and very much vice versa (John Bostock)
People keep saying that about my Discovery. Drive it properly and maintain it you wont have many issues. Its because most people buy them and then drive to the shops and back or do the school run.
Maybe due in part to the lack of a captain who leads and motivates his side on the pitch. Can you imagine the scenario last night when Ashbee was playing?
Everyone needs to get over this weird infatuation with Ashbee. He last played for us more than 10 years ago.
