I’m pissed off with his failure to listen but he has delivered a lot where Methven couldn’t even pick a decent match song
While everyone is concerned about the squad and striker position to various levels. I am curious what would possibly change IF TM was to leave. Him leaving doesn't mean we automatically get a striker or do people think getting a different coach would manage our current squad better? Personally I'm still waiting till the end of the window as I do believe given the players we clearly need TM would have us firing
This isn't me being negative, or pissing the bed, or moaning after 2 games, this is my opinion and how I see things happening at the club. Last season we played some cracking football and shocked quite a few teams. We signed youth. Players like Clarke and Roberts stunned the opposition at times. As a result we over achieved and blagged our in the play offs to the point commentators were saying we were "ahead of schedule". We managed to do this without a recognised striker for large parts of the season to the point it had some fans convinced we didn't need a striker whereby they would argue this point when it was obvious that if we had some experience up front, some of the losses could have been draws and draws wins. It was clear the club were trying to sign a striker but they dont grow on trees, but i digress. History, in theory won't repeat its self and we won't get away with what we got away with what we managed last season as the opposition will be more savvy. We won't get away playing with no experience up front, teams you'd think will have sussed that neutralising Clarke and Roberts slows our build up play. On the back of last season, fans rightfully are going into this season very optimistic, myself included. But we aren't going to repeat last season because the shock value isn't there. Theoretically, last season, the "modle" probably dictated we finish mid table, push for playoffs the following season ect,and when we didn't, expectations grew and when expectations aren't met ie Ipswich on Sunday, cup last night, the feeling of disappointment hits harder. in closing and once again imo, we're going to need patience. Still along way to go, but sunderland commentators coming and saying what Barnes said after a defeat is obviously going to add fuel to the fire.
Wouldn't disagree, and whilst Mowbray is crying out for help from Speakman I also think he didn't do himself any favours last night with the team selection. I know it was "only" 48 hours from our last match, but surely he could have picked a stronger team and actually given Hemir another run out against weaker opposition? People will argue about risking our better players in a meaningless game, but he played Neil, Ekwah, Clarke, Jobe anyway so what's the difference? Part of me thinks that last night's team was a "look what I have to work with" statement from Mogga, trying to prove that we are still short in a number of areas....
I agree , but if no striker comes in , it would not be Tony to blame, the fault lies elsewhere. He has done well so far with what he has to work with imo . My only concern with Tony is I cant understand playing Zak wide in a back four.. If say he and Crompton had started in a back three maybe we would have learned something from the game. All we learned last night was the that starting eleven, in that formation, did not work..
Whilst I liked what Wyke did, you are comparing Methven, an absolute slug of a man, to Speakman, who has been responsible for the best young signings in most of my life. All because we haven’t managed to get a proven striker in!
Aside from all the Barnes/Speakman/Mowbray nonsense on this thread, what did people think of the performances last night? Bishop - looks small and got boxed in a few times at corners. Seemed rooted to his line at times. Not a great start Johnson - looked like a CB at RB. Awkward in possesson without doing anything particularly wrong Batth - starting to understand why the club are willing to let him go. Probably lost more than 50% of his aerial duels and suddenly looks old as **** Triantis - some decent passes, bullied off the ball a few times. Looks miles off Huggins - lots of good runs, had little in front of him. Uses the ball well. Neil - usual - some nice touches without ever dominating Rigg - looks so comfortable on the ball and passes with real authority. Great to see him get his goal, but he tired afterwards and started giving the ball away needlessly Bennette - Anonymous. Probably needs a loan to L2 to get some game time Pritchard - seemed to be shooting from all angles, but linked up well with Dack. I'd start him on Sat Ba - another one who showed some intent, but dwells on the ball and takes an extra touch when he'd be better just crossing the ball. How many times did he run it out of play? Taylor - Anonymous. How long is he going to be at this club, doing nothing? Dack - early signs are encouraging. Looked good on the ball, was coaching Benette and linking up well with Pritch. Looks like he needs to shift a bit of timber and hopefully will improve as he gets fitter Ekwah - best player on the pitch when he came on. The lad gets better with every game. Crompton - another CB being played out of position. Looked more comfortable when we went to 3 at the back. Still looks miles off being good enough for the 1st team Clarke - played it like a pre-season friendly. couple of nice dribbles, but needs to learn when to play it and when to keep it Jobe - nice touches, looks good on the ball, Didn't do much in the short time he was on. Tin hat on :-D
Ok,here goes! Thought Bishop looked a bit nervous..understandable,needs to settle in. Huggins looked ok...pleased with him. I'd put Johnson,Nectar,Bennette,Taylor and Crompton into the category of...." good players, but would do much better when introduced one by one into a confident, winning side" Maybe include Ba in there too. Youth players rarely shine in a struggling team. Rigg is a very talented lad...stands on his own amongst the young group, how long before first team choice? Neil,Ekwah,Dack,Pritch,Clarke,Jobe......need a striker to play into....and a cdm to fall back on.....we need to get this sorted pdq! Danny Batth....mystery. He's a shadow of last season....coming back from injury?,not happy and wants to be away?...don't know, but we need to get him sorted one way or another.
Southampton get knocked out by lower league, no biggie, Sunderland get knocked out, end of the world according to press and our own fans. I was never bothered. Nice to be in the draw, but not an issue for me. Miles in the legs. The constant “judging” of players based on one performance by our fans is ludicrous. Had we done the same with Amad among others (which a lot did), where would we have ended had he not worked at it?
Is it judging a player to say they "look miles off". You can only see what's in front of you and no-one is saying that these players are ****e and won't make it, but it's glaringly obvious that some need more training/coaching or possibly a loan to get game time because they aren't currently up to the same standard as our first team players
Take the point...perhaps wrong terminology from me. I think I meant to say....a team not performing at its' top level.
No not at all. But saying they look miles off is one thing, saying they don’t look good enough is completely different and I’ve heard and seen a lot of the latter. As I say, a lot around me in the ground wrote Amad off after his early performances. Luckily a lot on here have your attitude and see things as a starting point. Some font, but most of us do. Social media, on the other hand, players will not be good enough from there!
quite a few rants after the game i see. Barnes did not say anything wrong, merely his own thoughts as all of us have had but the plucky little journo's searching for clicks did their job...seen many conflicting 'reports' about the game as well, people saying that the players they do not seem to have time for played badly while most other reports say those players had a good game, people need to remove their own feelings about a player and be able to admit when they have a good game. (pritchard being the main one from last night). i have 'sided' with the recruitment team up till now and i see no great reason not to continue doing so, but it is getting increasingly more difficult to keep doing it, we were lucky that wyke got excellent service, we were lucky that LND was ready to take his place and we were lucky LND stayed injury free for so long but the need for at least one 'ready to go' striker has hung around for a good while now and eventually the time came that we were left without someone ready to step in...many say this has dragged on since january but it really has been longer and i honestly believe (actually, hope) that the striker option, (as in ready to go) has been constantly at the top of the list and that the problem(s) have been too expensive/wages/greedy agents/too old/combination of all but it needs sorting ASAP above anything else. i don't want to see another manager/coach walking away from the job, i don't want to see players, who have had an excellent attitude, getting unhappy and most of all i don't want to see the supporters slowly turning on what has, so far, been a great time for the club...we all have opinions but trying to second guess the club never ends well, they are all professionals and things will rarely be smooth going, there will be some differences in there and the important thing is them just sitting down and thrashing it out.
