Minutes into legs, let's see if anyone can play themselves into contention. I'd be tempted to blood a couple of the U21 strikers for a half, maybe someone will surprise us.
Anyone who plays tonight has to be on the verge of a place in the regular squad imo. We have players who need fitness and some who should be pushing for a start. Rigg has to play imo, if he does he'll be looking at Dan Neil's place who I thought was poor considering he's established and it was the first home game of a new season.
Agree he has to play. We cant not pick someone in case they get an injury, unless the sports science lads say he is in a red zone. The lad needs experience and this is a prime opportunity. I suspect had we got our striker targets in this would have been his debut game. I think tonight we need him, Baath, Pritchard, Ba and Rigg to get plenty of minutes. Rigg and Pritch should be gunning for that 10 jersey next game. Baath needs 90 for fitness I would suggest. I would make Ekwah go again as well if Mowbray is keen he is deeper than Neil at times, he has to learn how to play that role as it didnt look natural to me.
Thought Neil was fine on Sunday. Ekwah stood out more in terms of general place, but Neil got into 2 decent positions and took his goal well. What is it about home grown players that seem to be held to a higher standard?
It seemed strange to swap their roles around. I'd rather Neil sat and give Ekwah more scope to get forward.
I thought so too. Ekwah struggled a bit out of possession I thought, whereas Neil has really developed that part of his game. Bit of a conundrum because I thought Neil was our biggest goal threat and in the past his shooting has been a real weakness. If, as it appeared, he has improved that part of his game then we have an even better player than I thought on our hands. My preference would still be having him in the deeper role, where we get possession dominance from him and Ekwah freer as I think Ekwah is the better player carrying the ball and looks to have a have some real goal threat or assist threat.
Well me and Mrs are now going. Can’t complain at only £10 per ticket. Anyone got any ideas of how many have been sold? Hope to see Dack get some minutes tonight. I’m going for a 2-1 win Ba and Rigg to score
We rarely do well in these scenarios - early cup game, lots of rotation. Makes me think of back to back defeats to Mansfield or the painful wins over Exeter and Shrewsbury But I'll be there tonight. Like the mug I am.........
One player I would like to see more of is Bennette. He scored a good goal in America, cutting from the right. Looks quick and aggressive, with an eye for a shot. It will be interesting to see how he progresses this season. I have pondered whether he might be a striker in time as he has some promising attributes. Be nice to see one of last years youngsters come to the fore this season.
He needs to start tonight, i think a loan move would be best for him - needs to play regularly and he wont get that with us
No video streams by the look of it. (only Hull v Doncaster or Wrexham v Wigan) EFL cup goals are usually shown on sky sports news as they go in.
I'm not sure homegrown players are held to a higher standard but I do think they cant do no wrong with our support and the rose tinted specs come on. Whether we are talking about CDM or CM. Ekwah is head and shoulders above Dan in both positions, imo.
I don't believe I judge home grown players any differently. Neil vanished at times, lost the ball in dangerous positions and didn't make a great impression ... ... if he was playing for Ipswich I don't think we'd be hoping to sign him. Perhaps some people judge him more leniently because because he's a home grown player.
RTB My main interest tonight is the performance of our manager Tony needs to put fewer round pegs in square holes and start a team with some semblance of a game plan. Time to shelve the experiments. My formation would be a 3 5 2 and make life difficult for our visitors, we havent done that often enough lately. OaU
I would always be more keen for a home grown player to do better than a bought in one personally. The value to the club is much greater due to the postive impact on academy reputation. I imagine everyone feels the same. Doesnt mean they get an easier ride, far from it in my experience, certainly over the last 15 years or so supporters have become obsessed with new signings and all the razzmataz of transfer windows. It is the instant gratification world we live in. Supporters get attached to players before they have even pulled on the shirt. I have even seen a suggestion Neil will have to move over for Bellingham. It is daft they way people judge players these days for me. I agree Ekwah is a better prospect than Neil as a CM, or the box to box player. Totally disagree he is better CDM, Neil is streets ahead of him in there currently. As a pair they are quality in my opinion and think we can enjoy watching them both.
