Good Morning. It's Tuesday 8th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Who'll be the first to activate Adams £20m release clause Multiple media reports suggest Chelsea, along with Spurs, Manchester Utd and Liverpool have all thrown their hats into the ring, as Leeds resign themselves to losing Tyler Adams this month. The 24yo may have another four years left on his contract, but the bright sparks at Elland Road gave him a £20m release clause, which came into play, when the Whites suffered relegation, and suffer they shall. Whilst we knew it was going to be difficult to keep hold of some our our prized assets, we expected the hierarchy to take advantage of the long term contracts the players were tied to. Instead, we've seen them leaving en-masse, on loan, more than likely to return at a later date a little worse for wear, for little, or in some cases, no loan fees at all. Adams case is different. He's an elite player, likely to complement even the top teams in Europe, yet Leeds still can't get it right. By selling a player for the same price he was bought at twelve months previously, it won't even help them much with financial fair play. Leeds look set to only break-even on the deal, and will be able to reinvest £4m of the proceeds towards new players. Adams has a five year contract, so his asset depreciation falls by 20% each season. please log in to view this image Should relegation make it so difficult to negotiate decent sales To allow a player of Adams' class to leave the club for the same price they paid for him just twelve months previously is ludicrous, especially when he has four years left on his contract! Leeds have so few good signings, that when they do unearth hidden talent, they need to ensure maximum return. It was always going to be difficult to retain your best players, after dropping down to the Championship, though few would have expected such a frenzied and desperate withdrawal from Elland Road. Whilst the uncertainty of the takeover, and having no Manager in place may have created anxiety in the ranks, there is absolutely no excuse why Leeds should be in such a mess. A fair comparison, is to compare Leeds with the other two teams that went down last season. Southampton have managed (so far) to keep hold of their best players, but have raised around £40 from the sale of Tino Livramento, even though he's only ever played 30 times for them, and £13m for the services of Mohammed Salisu. They may still lose Romeo Lavia, but will be well compensated (£50m). Similarly, Leicester City have retained the nucleus of their squad. James Maddison joined Spurs for £42m, even though he only had one year left on his contract, and £41m for Harvey Barnes who had two years left on his terms. How have Leeds got it so wrong? please log in to view this image Where are the goals coming from Leicester City and Southampton feature heavily in Bet365's race for the top marksman in the Championship this season. Patrick Bamford is joint 10th favourite at 25/1 and £35m flop Georginio Rutter, 24th favourite at 40/1. Cooper's injury to scupper Saudi move Liam Cooper's potential move to Saudi Arabia is in doubt after turning his ankle during the 2-2 draw against Cardiff City over the weekend. The 31yo landed awkwardly after scoring early on in the second half. He was then seen stretchered off the pitch. According to Phil Hay, we shouldn't expect to see the skipper back in action anytime soon, which is likely to effect any transfer hopes he may have of joining with with Joel Robles at Al-Qadsiah. “That looks to the naked eye like it’s going to be an absence of some sort. Looking at the way he was trying to walk behind the goal line and struggling you don’t see him being at Birmingham on Saturday. “I feel for him as well because he does have this offer from Saudi Arabia and I think in his situation with 12 months to go, 31 now, a lot of football behind him. It’s very different, I feel, to Max Wober’s situation. Wober seemed to be saying, ‘I want to be elsewhere. I just want to go and play for another club. I want to go to Bundesliga’. “I think this is more of a life decision for Cooper, but what the effect will be of this injury… It might well be that he was minded to stay anyway but if it is fairly long-term, or if it isn’t great, then you would imagine that it would put that move in doubt.” please log in to view this image
Morning all We got it wrong due to Ortas lack of contract skills, damage is done, hopefully lessons learned and we have to deal with what we have. I can’t see that’s right regarding FFP and only being allowed to spend £4m if we receive £20m FFP is over a three year period. If you spend £20m on a player and sell him for £20m a year later your net spend is zero so if the original £20m was within FFP you can surely spend it again. Sorry Elland I think you’ve got the math wrong? Regarding Southampton and Leicester, even if they have £80m in the bank, persuading anyone worth £20m to play in the Championship is going to be a tall order. We’ve also seen with Firpo, Aaronson and McKennie it doesn’t mean they’ll get it right.
Ignore the term of FFP, which is fixed at £13m per year or £39m over a 3 year cycle, a lot be depend on the players contracts. Over a 5 year term, his FFP depreciation works out at 20% per annum So based on break-even. If Adams left after:- Year 1 (£4m recouped towards FFP) Year 2 (£8m recouped towards FFP) Year 3 (£12m recouped towards FFP)
Good morning everyone it was said in pre season that Cooper would be injured at some point. When he went down there was no contact just a bad landing. Leeds should have got rid of him before the season started and just listed him. We actually looked better when he went off. Sometimes and I've seen it many times over the years changes are forced upon coaches. Meslier getting his place was one such change due the clown. Now cooper is out maybe charlie will start regular and a new left sided defender come in. Hope fully Bamford and the show pony Rutter are not back soon. The 49ers will need to sign a striker with some haste now.
We changed ownership, so the 49ers agreed a price lock stock and barrel. If they sell a player for £20m and his FFP value has dropped by £4m then surely where FFP is concerned we can spend £24m
Where did we go wrong? Bought rubbish that has no resale value hence has to be given away and contracts that would be laughable if it was another club. Imagine if it was Everton or Derby being run like us wed be doing some gloating. Parachute payments that we envied for 16 years flushed down the toilet. Anyway moving on, all about stabilising for a couple of seasons and after about four more managers, making a push for promotion. Let the fun begin, again
We can spend what we like but need to be promoted within two seasons. Then we can stick two fingers up the EFL and all they can do is fine us. Man utd have just been fined a small amount it has been reported. Everton have got away with it and still no fine. Chelsea fiddled for years and got away with it. The 49ers have 200 million for ground improvments put aside yet are limited regards buying players. Does anyone actually believe that bullkrap?.
But as we are newly relegated, we don’t need to submit accounts for our last season in the Premier League. If we sell him for £20m we have £20m to spend
The only issue we will have is the loans returning if promoted, and you’d assume returning on their previous PL wages. They won’t be wanted here, so we’ll need to sell them, and unless they have a great season and are in demand, it will possibly mean subsidising their wages. If we win promotion I can see the loans hurting us more next season than this one. As I see it we can lose £13m this season, we have parachute payments, wages are being covered by the loans, if we sell Adams for £20m we can surely spend at least £25m and not scratch the surface of FFP
Fleeced when we purchase.....fleeced when we sell/loan/give.....the contract team who oversee the terms must be the worst negotiating people in business led by the now departed smooth talking spiv (who also ****ed the Boro) you can see why people get took in by glib, flash conmen who take people's savings then move onto another mug(Seville).... we've been hamstrung with owners for the most part about time we had lady luck give us at least a grin instead of a grimace.... just phoned the ticket office to ask for my old place on the gelderd at 70's prices....boom, lovely lady even threw in a free shirt
With regard to the crap contracts the problem Orta had was that we were almost relegated. So convincing a player to sign he was having to show how confident he was that we wouldn’t be relegated. Stupid yes but I get why he was doing it, but if he had picked some better players maybe we would have still been in the prem
I'm not a twatter user. We need someone with insight and a quick mind to message. Someone intelligent to ask the question like an estate agent....
Lack of transfer activity, I've been having a think about this one and I'm pretty sure it is down to the uncertainty surrounding Adams and possibly Jack. I'm sure Ampadu was signed as a CB but due to the lack of midfield availability he has been asked to cover. We are looking at Kamara and Hamer the Coventry player. The dilemma is will Adams injury prevent a transfer out, let's say it does and he is with us after the window shuts, we would have a choice of Adams, Ampadu, Gray, Greenwood, Gyabi. The obvious signing would be Hamer, we drop Ampadu into CB, we don't really need Kamara, yes sign everyone we can and have vast depth, it is ideal but it won't happen. If we sell Adams we will need another holding midfielder, would the option then be to continue with Ampadu in that position and sign a couple of new CB's Also into the equation Jack Harrison, if he remains he will probably play more central, again making an attacking midfield player less important With Farke saying most of our business will be done towards the end of the window you have to believe Adams leaving is the key domino
