Around 100 new oil and gas licences for the North Sea are up for grabs, with the first of the new permits set to be awarded in the autumn.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says the licences are part of the UK's plans to bolster its energy security and make the UK less reliant on other countries for supplies.
But critics argue that extracting oil and gas is not the right approach for the environment.

Are people so thick they canrt work things out some are like lemmings at least do similar but after a while realise and do something else! ..........

"But critics argue that extracting oil and gas is not the right approach for the environment." ....... thicko's ..... we need say 1 billion barrels oil equivalent to secure our energy consumption over the next 15 -20 years the result is it could add xxxxxxmillion tonnes of carbon /gas to the enviroment. 2 CHOICES we spend a fortune buying it in and xxxxxxmillion tonnes of carbon /gas to the enviroment is put there by someone else! [ thicko's answer ] or we save a fortune and maybe even sell some surplus to make a profit and use our own supplies!

I give up on you here Ashton sometimes, can't think of any other way to explain what is already out there ... one day the penny will drop! as it did for me when I was doing my electronics and radio course at Brunel. The teacher was having trouble getting basic circuitry over to an individual [ I was by no clear on it myself but had an inkling ] .
He said do you under stand how yuou plumbing works in your house/ he said yes! so Teacher explained it using plumbing bits instead of electrical bits .. sorted me out 100% from then and he understood the principals then.Cant think of anything to help you though! sorry

Or maybe it’s you that don’t get what I’m saying, and likewise one day the penny will drop for you.
You still haven’t answered how many come in through Embassies.
What you can’t get passed is, they are still getting in, but in an uncontrolled manner, at least with my method we could control who is approved and who isn’t. What we have today is unsustainable

go back through the posts and you may see I have commented on it.there isnt any figures openly available as to how many get in via embassy's as they do as genuine asylum seekers/ migrants AND ARE IN THE figures of genuine legal persons given permission to stay.
TO SET UP 10-20 bonafide centres in foreign countries would take £bn and those refused would still try to get turned down in one of them they are on record and trying here would be sent back so they dont /didnt try via offshore points .......

Thousands of women in Africa will die in pregnancy and childbirth as a result of cuts to the UK's overseas aid budget, ministers have been warned.
According to an internal assessment by civil servants, almost 200,000 more women will also face unsafe abortions.
Their report reveals the impact of cuts this year to the overseas aid budget.
The Foreign Office says its budget for low-income countries has been cut in the short-term to hit a savings target, but will then nearly double.
The internal document says a 76% cut in aid for Afghanistan will leave some of the world's most vulnerable women and girls without critical services.

if we were not having to fork out " £2.8bn" for 600,000 plus illegals, plus the cost of additional patrols and payments to France we could easily maintain our foreign aid ... and I might add why are we the only ones doing it! there is over 150 with the ability to .

We still give £50m a year in foreign aid to China !
Until fairly recently we were also giving money to India, who left the commonwealth in 1948 ? Not sure if it's still happening but I'd rather my tax money was spent on UK citizens.
About time they called in the auditors and if they did, I'm sure a lorry load of cash could be saved with some sensible spending policies and cutting out wasted money.

the O2 DEBACLE ... anyone on here falling foul of the 02 TAKEOVER of VIRGIN MOBILE?

1000'S OF COMPLAINTS and very rude customer service operators. Service is rubbish and you cant get hold of customer service to be "abused" tosort it out.
My wife uses her phone for text/voice/data nothing else as does not have or want a computer. When phoning certain numbers like her daughter from in/near ASDA Whitchurch who lives less a mile away and has done so for 7 plus years on Virgin gets a "no connection/ or other message. On data gets a message consider using wifi etc etc etc about 1 in 7 or 8 calls fail to connect and whenshe does get data it takes ages before it was instant!

my case still on virgin works OK ... HOWEVER a couple weeks ago had a woman telling me I had to change to O2 but not to worry have a discounted price for you after 15 mins or so re requesting comments and trying to understand her her foreign tongue and what it entailed finally got know .. new customer for what I had would be paying £90 plus pm... but I could have a discount on mine would be £9 more than the increase I had a month before which was also £9 increase [ so my package was going from £39 to £58 in 2 months] I said I would only like to pay £40 worse scenario keep to £49 and look for someone else .. she then went over most again ... when she stopped I said "when is my existing contract up? " line went dead .
A chat then with Virgin cleared the air O2 were contacting the existing virgin customers before the contracts were due [ supposed to be 1 month ] then discuss new contract which would be with them ... also turning people over to O2 from virgin before the contract expires but doing so by saying you are now on O2 not Virgin ................. virgin lady said dont worry till next March when you should be in your last month!

Virgin screwed me over when I asked them for a better price in February for my Broadband. They knocked £4 off the monthly price for 12 months, and then promptly put it up by £6 in March. After a heated conversation in April when I'd realised what they'd done, and without telling me either, they knocked £2 off the original amount.
They're all a bunch of highway robbers !!

I did a deal 2 contracts ago called ooomph or something was told it would stay like that after the expiry until I changed it ... she said when a contract expires it gets a warning but if nothing done it continues until I change it for a different
My phone costs me £1 a month or voice texts and 15gb data.... problem is the oomph package has landline/ broadband as well built in ... t&c's state this can change for specific reasons annually .. I couldnt stop the £9 rise in April phoned up but no movement .. now I have to wait till march 2024 to get a new supplier for my phone and decide on virgin Broadband.

BBC Radio 2 lost a million listeners in its first quarter without Ken Bruce, after he left the station to join Greatest Hits Radio (GHR).
In his first three months, Bruce attracted just below three million listeners to his GHR mid-morning show.
That is around 1.25 million more than the show's previous host Mark Goodier.
However, it is a much lower audience than Bruce attracted on Radio 2, where his was the most popular radio programme in the UK.

That used to be my focal point of the day .. mainly popmaster .. think my biggest score was 12 or 15 [managed ] 2 out of the 3 Q 6 pointers 3 times and most correct without the doubles was also 12! Music was very balanced and so was the chatty bits, Now VK has not got got the same voice tone appeal or the format... the contest is not a contest really just a pot luck guess workmy raing v KB is 2/10

The BBC were mad to get rid of him. Still, it's their loss.
We've watched a couple of the recent Pop Master TV show with Ken Bruce, but aside from the last few minutes of every 1 hour episode where it's back to the radio show format, it's a bit heavy going.

I see that a Sky News presenter had a good go at a Refugee Council Chief Exec yesterday, when he referred to the barge in Portland as a floating prison and it being a sad day for human rights and for people seeking protection, and that barges are not appropriate accommodation for people fleeing human rights abuses.

Despite the fact that these people are not being detained on the Bibby Stockholm against their will, despite those who say if they are undocumented, or have dubious reasons for arriving here uninvited in the first place, having come through (possibly) many safe countries on their way to the UK their chosen land of milk and honey.

Let's not overlook the fact that these supposed desperate people being housed on the barge are free to come and go as they please, are being housed, fed, been given somewhere safe to sleep and provided with recreational opportunities, all at our expense.

Again, I don't know what planet these professional complainers are on and that's aside from the latest rounds of yet more lawyers blocking attempts to house other asylum seekers there due to things like peoples fear of ships and fear of water. All this despite the people in question having probably crossed the English Channel, the busiest shipping lane in the world, on an inflatable dinghy.

Protesters gathered at Portland Harbour on Monday with welcome packs containing toiletries and contact details of organisations offering support to migrants.

Care4Calais claimed it had stopped around 20 asylum seekers from various locations from boarding the barge, including people who have disabilities, people who have had traumatic experiences crossing the sea and victims of torture and modern slavery.

The charity said it will continue working with asylum seekers who don't want to be moved into the accommodation.

I get that the disabilities angle (if true, and not something that they've been told to say by a bent lawyer) but the world really has gone potty and we're being taken for mugs by people who by rights should be on the side of common sense but clearly are a million miles away from it.

The asylum seekers should be bloody well grateful for ANYTHING they get.

Let's hope the tide and public opinion starts to turn against these lawyers and charities like Care4Calais, Just Stop Oil, PETA, Extinction Rebellion and Greenpeace etc, especially the latter following their recent stunt at Rishi Sunaks house. I don't care what the motives are, but to target peoples private houses is overstepping the mark on Greenpeace's part, and I'd say the same if it was done at Starmer's house too.

If the protesters who climbed on the roof, and those who stop traffic, were given a really hefty fine and proper jail time along with a criminal record it may serve as a deterrent.

No one is against peaceful protests and it's a democratic right, but these people are taking the p*ss and our laws against them are not fit for purpose, just like immigration.

But after recent events, I think people in this country are finally waking up to the fact that the likes of the banks should have absolutely no say on peoples political opinions providing they are legal, that Climate Change and the Net Zero agendas and brain washing attempts on us and scare stories are two of the biggest cons going, and that the latter will cost each UK citizen tens of thousands of pounds to try and achieve, and for what ? Whilst China, India, Russia and co continue to pollute.
That's without the utter hypocrites like John Kerry, and Greta Thunberg who fly around the world preaching that ordinary people should take the bus !

    Enough !

Those pushing the gender self identify nonsense, and the heads of major UK corporations who have been captured by the inclusion and diversity BS also need to be called out next and named and shamed. Their diversity and inclusion caused division and resentment that wasn't there before. But they are in the pockets of the likes of Stonewall who might give them a bad review in front of their peers. Oh boo-hoo !

Western democracy is going to the dogs if all of this isn't stopped right now, if it isn't there already.

do i still like wasps? well yes, but this one I wish I had exterminated as his life cycle was ending anyway! Will take a antihistamine tablet now as out of the ice pack it is to painful ....

what was the idea of the flowers? and of the pictures seen entering the barge none were carrying any of these freebies!

This and your other quote further down the post is being addressed by the .gov

What are they going to do in Weymouth, especially now with so many holiday makers around and especially in the winter month's when it is almost dead ..compared!

    ...............

to step up efforts to bring "crooked" immigration lawyers to justice.
It comes after reports some firms are offering to submit false asylum claims for a fee.
A new taskforce, which has been carrying out preliminary work for a few months, has officially been launched.
The Home Office said it would help build stronger evidence bases to support prosecutions.
But the Law Society said the Home Office was focusing on "a tiny minority of lawyers" rather than the "significant backlogs in asylum claims".
The organisation, which represents solicitors in England and Wales, said the necessary powers were already in place to deal with immigration advisers engaged in misconduct.

ANYONE ON HERE could be a solicitor without any training just a sin on the door a few books and a bit of knowledge good or bad ..... a lot of the solicitor letters you get from private parking notices you get are from the suchlike .. they buy the unpaid fines from the parking companies . then state they are solicitors and then endeavour by "threats" to get you to pay ... I have had a few total amounts so called accrued before didnt get any letters was in excess of £2000

The TV media are making it almost impossible.
We know where the BBC stand on all this but now ITV Good Morning has joined forces. They're so 'For' these asylum seekers and lawyers and charities especially Ed Balls, no surprise there from the staunch ex Labour minister.
And all Labour spouts off is stopping the Rwanda policy, delaying anything in the House of Lords and backing every lawyer fighting for help in asylum claims. Ashton will be on later citing the inept handling of the immigration service, I agree but for totally different reasons.
We left the EU and I wouldn't listen to anyone else either.
We should do as the Australians.
See how many then turn up on Kent beaches.

The BBC have frankly become a national embarrassment in the way they twist every headline possible to be Climate Change/end of the world related, and as you say, they are clearly left leaning and are very much pro immigration and anti Government.
I also wonder about even the Fire Brigade after last weeks comments on how unsafe the Bibby Stockholm was and if it was an attempt at intentionally delaying things.
Are they just another in the long list of our institutions to be captured, like so many others, by what the left are constantly pushing.
I'd love any British Government who said 'enough' and got the Royal Navy involved and started towing dinghies back to France.
I'd like even more to see lefty lawyers, also in dinghies trying to stop them !
