Ludicrous signing. We need a first choice and to relegate baz to backup. Not sign an even worse keeper.
Baz is first choice and will continue to be. There's no point signing a young, promising keeper and not playing him.
Agreed. His confidence undoubtedly took a battering last season as he was given next to no protection. His saved shot percentage was so poor because the defence was giving away so many clear cut chances. He'll be fine this season as he won't be battered with shots every 5 minutes.
Thing is mate, objectively he's pretty ****e. I don't want to go in too much on the lad (because he's only young) but I've seen nothing about him which suggests he should be our no.1 even in this league. I was hoping we'd sign someone decent for this season.
Also we spent over 10m on him. As a championship club we can’t stick an 8 figure goalkeeper on the bench and sign another one. Especially with McCarty still here.
What about the absolutely stunning save he made at Old Trafford last season when he tipped a Fernandes (I think) shot onto the post? His penalty save at Fulham? Look, I know he's got his flaws but he's nowhere near as bad as some make out. And he's good with the ball at his feet - crucial in a Russell Martin team.
No we don’t expect that. But in recent history when you’ve had Kelv, Boruc, Foster and McCarthy, Bazunu is worse than all of them. He may well go on to be a great keeper, but he’s not at the moment. We really need a better no 1, but with a better defence in the championship he may be less exposed.
But Bazunu is definitely the best choice for this system. We looked all at sea with McCarthy at the back during the friendlies. The system works with Bazunu. His shotstopping is good- he just needs to work on his positioning.
Gotta love Saintsweb sometimes. Apparently it would be good business to sell Lavia and bring in McAtee as defensive midfield is not as pressing a concern. The position where we currently only have Lavia and Charles as true defensive midfielders. I’m personally not keen on going into a season with only one defensive midfielder for what feels like at least the fourth season in a row Especially one with 46 games
Isn't Smallbone playing in that '6' role? Why would Charles displace him? Surely Smallbone and Charles are enough in this position.
Not commenting on any goalkeeper in particular but I feel for keepers….to paraphrase, keepers have to be lucky all the time, strikers only once.
Looks like JWP & McTominay have similar asking prices. Hopefully they go for McTominay as he is a bit younger
Which is precisely why we're not asking too much for JWP. You'd take him over McTominay all day long.
