We need to vote Labour in to stop the boats, man, 'cos that'll work Some people really think that, apparently, including Labour politicians
It's impossible to stop the boats, it's nowt more than another idiotic three word slogan ... ... Sunak took over from Johnson and uses the same infantile clickbait. The government has to do the long hard graft of attacking gangs through the courts, banks and any other means possible. They have to work with the rest of Europe, actually send people back to safe countries, process people quicker, etc. But that doesn't grab headlines and votes because it's invisible.
When Labour gets in (which they will, despite themselves) it's going to be really interesting to see what happens with the febrile uber-confrontational attitude everybody seems to have now. All the supposed problems will remain, so if it all goes quiet it proves that they were entirely politically motivated rather than any actual grievance. If it doesn't, Labour will quickly find that their entire strategy of 'not being tories' doesn't stand up to reality.
Well after ridiculing the Tories plans and after 9/10/11 U turns the next Labour government when they get in are going to put the immigrants on the Tory barges you couldn’t make this s hit up useless no policy ****ers.
I'd imagine they have little choice, there'll be contracts signed and moorage paid for, they can't just clear them out the day after the election. They'd have to accommodate them in hotels which is just as bad.
It was on BBC 1 this morning I would of thought they could of had something partly lined up, they have 15mnths to look
What, line up massively expensive accommodation for the barge people ... ... then lose the election. It's taken the Conservatives 13 years to get this far, which is basically nowhere.
Stephen Kinnock ( shadow immigration minister) says they will have to use it short term until they find another solution ( you would of thought having 15 months) before the next election they would have something in place and ready to go with only paper work to get signed. Let’s see how long it lasts.
You don’t seem to have much faith. I was hoping the Labour would come up with something better than nowhere.
He said that they would inherit a situation where migrants were already in the barges so there would be a period of transition. He certainly didn't say that Labour were ideologically in agreement with the policy. Technically he didn't say that they would be putting immigrants on the barges either which is what you claimed in you original post.
No party would line up 'deals' of any kind before an election ... ... the electorate would take it as presumptuous and arrogant, then turn against them. If Sunak stops the boats, as he's promised, the situation may be better for the next administration ... but he won't.
'I want my peerage and I'll scream and scream if I don't get it' Nadine Dorries faces move to force her out of Parliament "Ms Dorries said she was standing down as the MP for Mid Bedfordshire in June but later said she would not formally resign until she got more information about why she was denied a peerage." She has not spoken in the Commons since July 2022 and last voted in April. By Becky Morton Political reporter 1 hour ago
I don't think it's even about stopping the boats for them (the Tories), the whole thing just gives an opportunity to stoke the culture wars and distract from their numerous failings. They can blame the ECHR, Labour, lefty lawyers, do gooders etc for the boats not getting sorted.
Ah cheers I’ll have a look. Imagine if people died on that boat. It would be criminal negligence I’d imagine.
No mention of what that period of transition would look like though. They've got no plan other than to carry on doing it and blaming the Tories.
In all honesty if the Labour government can leave them on there for 3 months until they find something else, I don’t believe it can be as bad as what they are trying to make out. Just using it as another stick to beat the government with.
He says they will use the infrastructure that is there in the short term. We must just read what he says differently
