It's a interesting one. Hume is a smart player but is rather slow I feel and doesn't that that recovery pace to get back. When you have someone like broadhead who sniffs the space and punishes you, it's not a good mix. Results in today. Goal and assist for broadhead and a red for Hume.
Its the lack of pace that will hold hume back from being a regular at PL level imo - im a huge huge fan of his but modern day fullbacks need pace Dont mind him coming instead occasionally but as you said broadhead targetted that space Massive fan of broadhead and he'll do very well this season imo
Been covered about the lack of urgency and chances created being poor today but it was also disappointing the lack of shots from range. No one seemed willing to have a go, except ekwah in the 1st half. Roberts should have had a shot from range in the second half but tried to play Pritchard in who was offside. Not sure if it was trying to walk the ball in or lack of confidence but no one seemed willing to try when we had the ball around the box.
Early days I know, but Hemir didn't look interested in pressing or closing down all match. Offered very little in fact.
first one over with...stick by what i already said that the first couple of games always throws a couple of 'wobblers' into the mix. main play from us was decent, not going to throw any players under the bus here but have to say they all need to work on partnerships, wide men trying to do it on thier own or no one helping them out meant attacks faltered and not a great deal going into the box till the subs were made, much the same can be said for defence who seemed to be left exposed too often...partnerships make or break a team imho. wondered why batth did not start, felt him and ballard would be the best to start, jobe had a decent debut and his 'chance' gave him little time except to get something in the way of it, hemir also a canny debut with a little tracking back and winning the ball but really needs people working with him regarding his runs. they scored a lucky one and then a well worked 2nd before we had woken up for the second half but when they did go on the break they looked liable to at least get one on target while we struggled basically, we had more of the ball but they made better use of it...hopefully a one off for our lads, i am sure they will work on it and possibly get the men in we still need, not going to lose sleep over it and i will still wait for the first 10 games to make any real judgement.
Thought Hemir looked completely overawed today, like a rabbit caught in the headlights, it's a big learning curve for him but I'm sure the coaching staff will get him there. But unfair on him to be honest leading the line on his own.
Young lad playing his 1st league game for his new team should be busting a gut to show his worth. He should have been chasing down everything and full of energy. Pritchard did it when he came on and he's 10 years older. Early days as I say, but I hoped for more from him.
Pritchard isn’t a 6’4 bloke who’s built like Danny Bathh though. Whilst I do think he could’ve done more and pressed more than he did, after the first 15 minutes where they were shaky Ipswich became comfortable on the ball at the back and Hemir would’ve just been chasing the ball until he was blowing out of his arse. We need to play his strengths if we’re going to play him.
He needs space to be at his best, i know that sounds daft as youd think most players would be better with space. I mean we needed to move it quicker for him so the box wasnt crowded like it was in the 1st half. Veteran strikers know how to create a yard of space for themselves when its like that, hemir doesnt yet Hopefully he learns from today n kicks on, debuts are never easy especially in front of over 40k
Stewart is stick thin.. if you think someone the size and stature of Hemir can press all game at the intensity we play at you’re going to be very disappointed this season, it’s just common sense that the heavier you are the harder it is. If we want a striker who’ll run all game we should pay the loan fee for Cannon, who I do think would be an excellent option for how we play.
Wouldn't shock me to see Hume end up as CDM. He played a lot of youth football as a Centre Back but he's a couple of inches too short for that in senior football.
Goals win games, strikers score most of the goals in a team, once again in a window we have not bought at least two good ones, we need to pull our finger out
Amazing how many negative opinions there are after one defeat. I took a lot of positives from the game and am still looking forward to the rest of the season. The biggest tragedy for me yesterday was the closure of the fish and chip shop on the corner (Sizzlers?). Seriously disruptive.
Some of the comments are embarrassing, some have been fair. Folk going on about spending money is embarrassing tho, we have spent money n we have brought in 2 strikers. I remember some saying just sign any striker, we sign 2 n its now 'oh but we should spend moeny on a striker n they need to be experienced' If we won yesterday we still needed to addewss certain positions. Folk saying its a bad window so far after 1 game is a ridiculous statement to make. Ekwah looked useless for the 1st few months now looks a player, yet folk wrote him off so quickly n said January was a crap window - now looks good getting a player of his quality in We still have over 3 weeks to go of the window, our best signing of last window - amad - didnt come in until the season had started n we didnt see his best form for a month or so after signing him
Would an experienced striker made all the difference yesterday though? I'm not so sure. Granted hemir didn't look up to speed today, there was no service to him. The attack was lacklustre, no urgency and no balls going in to the box for him to attack. Strikers need service no matter the age and he never got that. Like I say I don't think he looked up to speed yet but the striker situation looks like a stick to beat the club with when things don't go well.
Yesterday we werent bad, we were for 25 mins or so at the start of the 2nd half but overall we werent bad Its 1 game, we wont know how good or bad this window is until later in the season
