On the James haters, I thought he was good today. Apart from any of his runs he had a shot brilliantly saved. It would have been a goal most days. He also had a goal ruled out for ayling drifting offside again. So I’m not sure what more is expected of him
Enjoyed the game and a little unfortunate we couldn't get the win our 2nd half dominance deserved. Not really a surprise we suffered a defensive hangover after the last 2 seasons but the positive was the fightback and lack of attacks we allowed Cardiff after their 2 goals. Pluses today for me were; Byram - very elegant footballer and a great addition on a free. Poveda - Great dribbling skills as he twisted and turned his defender inside out, shame he only had 10 mins. Summerville - Never say die attitude. Ampadu - neat and tidy with a good all round game. Gray - long way to go but massive potential for one so young. Farke - helped the team to respond all throughout the second half. Not doing negatives as it was the first game of a long season and we didn't lose after being 0-2 down.
Promising signs indeed. Get a focal point up top to notch a few chances. Swap our keeper. Get Cresswell going with a new centre half. Sign a ****ing left back. Get Dramah fit and we'll be there and there abouts.
Byram was excellent and we have Firpo waiting in the wings so left back shouldn't be our priority. Crazy I know but true.
Think we need to see Byram starting at LB before deciding who we need there, he stood out when he came on
On the other hand he might be even better at right back ? It's clear though we need Drameh and Firpo back fit asap so we can finalise the full back positions one way or the other.
Wasn't it great. Shot goes in and just celebrate. Disallowed goal...bollocks but you know in one second once you've glanced at the linesman. No penalty checks...just yes/no from the referee. What's not to like about this new and innovative system.
It was a much better matchday watching at the ground. Flag up for offsides and no false penalties given. Our shouts were not really penalties. If we had been denied a clear shot then fair enough.Referee was not card happy or being surrounded by a bunch of nancy boys.
It was like watching a different game to the bs pl rubbish. Most enjoyable and every player on pitch on both sides giving it their all
yeh and it largely restricts us to ‘inverted full back on that side. For all the anti-Ayling comments (which I do get) I think we need to see Drameh playing in a 4 before we decide he’s a shoe-in. His Cardiff and Luton spells were in a 5. Much as Farke likes his right back playing as a winger which should suit Drameh, the defensive responsibilities are more challenging in a 4
