I saw no signs of us competing against better opposition, based on this performance, as I saw everything wrong about us on show again to start this season. It was almost like re-watching a lot of our games over the last 10 years and I'm afraid for the season already because none of our more recent signings under Nigel look to be capable of doing the business. A tough away game at Millwall next weekend will really show what we are made of and I can't see us getting anything up there based on yesterday. Looking back at our transfers in over the last half of last campaign and this summer I can't see Cornick, Mehmeti and the new ones fitting into what we need and I don't reckon the squad has been improved at all. However I concede it's only the first game of the season but I fear we won't do very well with what we have. One of the things I notice is we still have no really tall mountainous players which means we are bustled off the ball way too often and that is a huge negative from where I sit.
I did see Max try to throw the ball from the back, but our passing was dreadful too many times, easily intercepted by Preston players. Zak became our only release to cause them problems, which is a worry towards our lack of ideas.. The pattern of our play was all wrong....Lack of creativity in midfield didn't help.. A Massengo type player.......oh yeah we let him go!!
Absolutely spot on RP missed Scott yesterday. Nige needs to use the Oxford game with different players and get it right for Millwall.
I know, when PNE had been camped in our half which allowed Max to throw out quickly eg to Bell. Most of the game they penned us in and the only option was to launch it to where their CH was waiting, I can't remember winning one ball, can you ? I did notice a very poor effort by Max coming out to collect a high ball under very little pressure only to spill it, luckily we cleared it. Vyner looked assured beside a few misplaced passes, tbf most went square to Dickie. He also made one brilliant block throwing himself at the PNE shooter. PNE's thrust seemed at our 2 full backs putting them under pressure, especially Pring. Against better teams and away from AG Vyner will get put under pressure, especially turning. Hope he copes. Incidentally, I thought Williams was our best defender at their set pieces, making 3 brilliant headers 6 yards from goal.
Vyner was my MOM by some distance, if he’d been as far off the pace as most of the rest of the team we’d have been stuffed. Literally. He coped last season, so I’m unsure why you question his ability to do so this season. If he plays as well for the rest of the season he’ll be the player of the season again.
Ashton do you get down the gate or do you watch on a VPN .’ Just wondered how you can say Vyner was your MOM. For me 100% mom
Well it took until the World cup break last season to adjust and start to get things right with the team.....I just hope NP works things out a lot sooner this campaign otherwise it's gonna be another long season!! I know a few including yourself is not a big fan of Max, but overall I think he is a decent keeper.....but I do understand that he does have the odd mistake in him, whether he has the ability to improve and cut those mistakes out is yet to be seen..... Yep I think Williams did well when he came on and agree with you, it's not a position for AW, whom has been out of sorts for a while now.... I'm not interested in the Oxford game, but Millwall will be interesting to see what we've learnt from the PNE game.....
