Probably the least liveliest half under Ange so far. Neither keeper overly tested. Kulu and Son both poor on the flanks, Sarr and Maddison fairly bright, Davies with poor defending for their equaliser. Everyone else a bit meh. Wonder if we’ll change it up again or give this bunch about 60-70 mins, as it’s largely the first XI barring Bissouma.
The main test for half time is to find who is sitting in these seats, just in case it's time for a good old fashioned Kraut stomping... Either that or the twunt is freebooting other people's clips without giving credit
At the game. I think the overarching problem is that there are still far too many first team players who shouldn't be anywhere near a first team that takes itself seriously. Average players everywhere you look. Ange's FB system is also intriguing and I'm not sure I'm a fan but it's very early days. In possession, the FBs move infield and are at times even more central than the CMs themselves. It means we are totally reliant on Son and Kulu for width.
Weirdly, that's sort of how Nuno's FBs were used when he was at Wolves - but that never really took off here, even though Doherty (obviously) and Davies could certainly have played that exact way
Ashley Phillips is reportedly in the stands today Probably fancies his chances of getting some games this season after seeing Davies getting beaten easily in the air...
Links to my comment earlier. Udogie was giving Sonny under-lapping options, but he insisted on cutting inside.
