Just seen QPR last their final pre-season friendly 5-0 to League One Oxford, with QPR also seeing their only fit CB leave the game on a stretcher. I'm so looking forward to their miraculous return to form timed perfectly to knock us out of the League cup.
It was a clever set piece goal as well, with Duffy rising up through the keeper's hands to knock the ball up in the air, then standing aside to let Sargent knock it into the net. I wonder whether that was a planned free kick or down to Sara and Duffy's own improvisation. Sara's high arc free kick was unusual.
Duffy looked massive out there yesterday. Really hope Sargent scores the goals this season, he looks really capable and I for one am glad to finally see him nailing down the main striker role. His finish for the goal that was ruled offside was great and hopefully gives more confidence even if it was ruled out
Season kicks off tonight with Southampton v Shef Wed. I didn’t realise Akin Famewo was at Sheffield these days!
Very one sided match at HT with Southampton having 73% of possession and leading 1-0, with 12 shots, 6 ot.
Nine added minutes at then end of the game. Is that because of the new timekeeping rule, or was there an injury?
We're supposed to have improved fitness as least, although I think having 9 on the bench and 5 subs mitigates that at least. Going to be interesting to see what we have in the way of "game changing subs". It feels like we have a fairly set starting XI, and it's really only Nunez/Barnes, Hernandez/Sainz/Rowe and maybe Omobamidele/Gibson where we might have strong options off the bench looking to impress and make a difference. Gibbs, Idah maybe have potential to do that as well?
There's also the difference 'fresh legs' can make. For us that looks to be mainly at the wide positions with Idah also able to add another dimension there. Rowe can also play behind the striker and Gibbs is versatile and could have an effect anywhere in midfield. The other possibility is at LB where either McCallum or Placheta could come on. Aarons, if he stays, or Fisher at RB is another possible change.
Three ex-City players, Cantwell, Dowell and Marley Watkins (remember him?) involved in tonight's SP match between Kilmarnock and Rangers. Dowell started, Cantwell replaced him, and Watkins's replacement , Lyons, put Killie ahead almost immediately after the substitution. Killie still leading 1:0 on 86 minutes.
Champions USA lose penalty shoot-out to Sweden in the WWC. The match was decided by a penalty which appeared to have been saved, but was adjudged to have crossed the line by VAR.
Coventry take the lead at Leicester. How the mighty fall Update. 2-1,good game,Leicester suddenly come to the party
HT at Elland Road, Leeds 0:2 down to Cardiff. Now 1:2 approaching 60 mins. Sam Byram is playing, on the left. Finished 2:2, with 95th min equaliser not dissimilar to Idah's yesterday -- ball bounced off defenders to lurking Leeds player in the box.
