There is a nob who rides one through Hull to work. I've thought about clipping him so many times. They are illegal on the road so I'm not sure how I could be charged with any offence such as dangerous driving. If anything I should probably get a medal.

No push along toys are legal…motor scooters are a grey area, only because the laws are so old they do not account for them

Motor scooters are definitely illegal, the Met Police alone seized over 4,000 of them in 2021.

it’s a grey area, how are they avail to hire if they are illegal? The laws that apply to them are 60 years out of date, they are only illegal due to the fact the laws are out of touch with modern technology

The ones available to hire are in government trial areas. It is currently still illegal to ride a privately owned scooter on the pavement, in a bike lane or on the road. It is as said mostly due to outdated legislation and their curent vehicle classification.

The trials will help inform new legislation that may allow e-scooters to be used. Currently, they are deemed unroadworthy.

"It is theoretically possible for an e-scooter to be classed as road legal. Manufacturers are free to submit products to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency for approval. However no models currently meet these standards."

You mean the electric ones, right? Ha ha, ive got one (they're legal here, but you have to have insurance now and they're limited under 20km/h). My children bought it for me, I use it to run the dog in the morning before work, when I'm short of time.

Ye, thought so, ha, they're everywhere here, almost all teenagers have one, plus me, and you can hire them. You lose your driving license if you're caught drink driving on them (or get a delayed license if you havent got one yet) and get fined for bad driving, but allowed to drive on paths and some roads, but not main roads.

Surprised they're not legal in the UK, but I guess there's more antisocial behaviour regarding them.

All the feral estate rats seem to have them, and the electric bicycle types. Widely available on e bay. The gennie is out of the bottle now and no amount of new legislation is going to stop their use.
