Depends on where you stand. For us, he is worth that much as we know just how good he is for us and his leadershjp qualities lift the squad. The last 3 seasons he has averaged something like 18 goals/assists. For another club its a bigger risk as they don't know how he will fit into their squad and way of playing. With little resale value it is a much bigger risk for the buying club.
Yeah I agree. Most transfers fall into the bracket of 'worth more than seller' but this one is like that on crack. I still think he'll go for 30m ish plus add ons.
Why would we be offering a compromise? I don’t understand. I guess they must seriously think we need to sell and are just bluffing. But surely the only compromise is to send a player our way. Is Downes a player that will work for us and bridge the £10m gap? And does that compromise even work for them? I don’t know how exchange deals work but I’d have thought they’d have to pay off his loyalty bonus and completely write off his remaining asset value as a loss
