The thing with the new system is that although a lot don't like it, we had far more successful outcomes at the end of the season when using it.

That's brilliant. My goodness the lad can move though. Pity the assist to Clark didn't come off, they deserved it for sheer effort.

There were some really entertaining games in there and scoring for fun.

my view of these tactics is relatively simple

if certain players so what they are told to do then it can work most of the time.

it's fairly obvious people are mistaking klopps intent for Robertson as last season he was held back for first half and then let go attack second half and run on.

in this case the no 6 (genuine no6) has to then cover this.

until its a real game with a real consequence we won't see the real effects.

same for trent who was everywhere but stood at 6 during preseason. do we really think thats the intent?

do we really think Henderson was any good in a false 10 role? no I didn't.

we have now macallister and szoboszlai. these will be vital to us.

You're right in that pre-season is for experimentation and we'll be more disciplined when the serious stuff starts.
I'm still perplexed by Trent's role though, I think we should settle on him being one thing or the other. Against Bayern he was at inside left position (****nose what that number is) sometimes, and there's no way he's getting back to cover the RCB from there in time.
I fear we're trying these positions to keep him happy, and I don't want to see a system that worked so well before ruined just for that.

there’s literally a quote from Klopp a few weeks after first deploying the system, saying that Robbo was pushing too high up, and he needed to stay back.

Robbo needs to get to grips with this system quickly

To be fair it really stiffles his strength playing that way. Guy is the leading assist in prem from a defender. Getting down the line and putting dangerous balls into the forwards was a huge strength plus allowed mane to cut inside more while occupying someone out wide.

I know it’s to get TAA infield more and also sure up the middle of pitch by having 4 in there but does take away Robbos main strength which is a shame.

There are a number of reasons why I don't like this system and that's one of them.
Robbo isn't all that great a defender, but he is great going forward.
We're having to dismantle the system that brought us so much success just to accommodate one change.
I just don't see the gains outweighing the losses.

the issue at hand was inability to press.

we parked 5 back in theory and 5 up the park to try and stem goals.

it worked alright but only alright.

the players bought so far are better for pressing.

but if you can put a tackle in and stop play or win the ball you do get walked through.

Thiago is our only tackler. I can't say I focussed too much on it in the preseason games but maybe the two new lads like a tackle or two. It's funny because all the youngsters were getting stuck in so there doesn't seem to be a tactical order not to do so, the senior players just don't.

I think Mito pointed out how Szob was 'putting himself about' v Bayern. Looks like he covers alot of yards and is one of those
accumulative yellow card types, nothing really nasty but always putting a challenge of sorts in (a bit like Fab). Mac is more terrier like and often
    comes away with the ball.

There are some players that the ball really likes, Suarez was one, Diaz another, here's hoping that Macallister is another.
