Beverley Town 1 Sheffield Wednesday Under 21's 2. My first visit to Beverley Town's tidy little ground on Norwood and to be fair I was only there because my youngest grandaughter under 9 team, Kingswood Pearls were mascots for the night and if I say so myself I thought they added to the occasion massivley with their enthusiasm and black and amber kits. Beverley play in the Northern Counties East League so playing FC Massive's under 21's was quite a step up for them. Friendly welcome at the ground, £3 and £5 to get in, under 12's free, with a smart club house and cheap beer, Sneck Oil and Holderness Dark, very nice it was too. There was a sprinkling of Wednesday fans there to boost the crowd at a guess around the 250, maybe 300 mark. Spoke to a few of them, they are expecting nothing this season, which for them kicks off this Friday at home to Southampton. Beverley started very well on a beautiful looking pitch and for the first half an hour were probably the better team. Wednesday, if they have a set way of playing ( like City, playing it from the back) disguised it well, I thought they were very average. However they went in at the break two up, both scored just before half time and the second came from a counter attack after Beverley had hit the post. Second half, much like the first with very little between the teams and Beverley perhaps shading it overall. They pulled one back when Scott Philips, he who hit the post in the first half, tapped in a rebound off the keeper after a sweeping Town move opened Wendesday up. This was no way a friendly and I was impressed with Beverley who really matched FC Massive man for man and gave them a real game. So, I enjoyed my little trip out and I will return to watch Beverley in league action when I can.
Apparently Marcelo got sent off for this. Not sure if he left one in there or a complete accident. I do know it was drummed into me not to flick out a weak leg like that. And that's why.
Their drip drip drip continues, rumour has it their capacity is to be cut to 2000 as they don't have enough safety stewards. They've advertised for more, but can't recruit them. Perhaps because for the last six months wages haven't been paid on time, and staffs pension contributions are also in arrears. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
