I haven't watched him extensively. Seen him a couple of times, and a few clips, although anyone can be made to look like Pele if you are selective with clips. But I wont pretend to be an expert. His stats are very meh, but he is 20, so plenty of time to improve, and in a better team than than Atalanta, and with a good manager, theres no telling what his potential may be a year or two down the road. I can never understand why people die on the "He's gonna be ****" hill......I did that once eons ago and got made to look foolish, with a certain player everyone called twinkletoes, who turned out to be the second best player of his generation and one of the greatest players to have ever existed. One issue is that players like Messi, Ronaldo and Haaland have set the bar so high, that if a player isnt grabbing 40 goals a season in all comps by the time they are 21, people start poo-pooing them. Same with wingers like with Salah and Son, grabbing 20 goals in the league. Used to be that if a winger got double figures in goals and assists, he was great. 12 goals and 11 assists was considered a great return, now everyone expects 25 goals +. Those sorts of players are anomalies.
Everyone gotta start somewhere, right? There are only so many £100 million finished article centre forwards out there. And you are right, it was all said about Ronaldo. It's also being said about Antony and anyone who has actually seen him play can surely see a player in there, or I don't get what they are watching. He's definitely not a flop after one season in completely foreign country. All I can say about Hojlund is he seems to have all the tools and ability to be a good centre forward. Any (lazy as ****) comparisons with Haaland can be done by others. Personally will keep an eye out and hopefully he fulfills his potential. I won't be saying he's ****e if he doesn't score in his first couple of games!
Indeed. I remember calls of Haaland being a flop by some Liverpool fans, because he didnt score in the Community Shield Idiots claiming Nunez was the better purchase because he scored. After one game.....why are people so ****ing stupid. Mudryk is going through the same thing after ten games in the worst Chelsea squad I have seen since the early 90's.
Yeh and if we buy big names and finished articles we'll get blamed for that. The narrative is already written whichever way we go I'd rather we try and find the next young player to develop or one who's shown potential that can improve further rather than go after the big names like we have at times over the past decade. We'll always pay a premium because we're United, but like we've said in the past what the fck do we care, it's not our money. I'd rather we get the recruitment which suits a particular style of footy the manager and heirarchy want us to play.
