Good Morning. It's Wednesday 2nd August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Rutter loan snag German Sports media outlet 'Kicker' have claimed that Georginio Rutter has an agreement with Victor Orta allowing him to go out on loan, if relegated, as long as his wages were covered in full. But there is a snag - it was a verbal agreement! In all the haste to get the deal over the line, the finer details of the paperwork were forgotten about, and who can blame them? Rutter was about to Quintuple his salary (from £15k a week to somewhere between £70k - £90k), and become a Premier League star! Seven months on (and a lot richer), the 21yo finds himself in the Championship, with his salary slashed in half. We've seen some nice touches from him in pre-season, but, in truth Summerville (should he stay) is far ahead of him in the pecking order, and we can't forget about Dan James either, who offers pace down the right flank. The early signs of Rutter being able to operate as a centre-forward don't look good, and as such, would it be better if he was sent out on loan to gain more experience? please log in to view this image Could Manchester Utd youngster replace Firpo Leeds may be lining up a bid for highly rated defender Brandon Williams, according to the Independent. The versatile full-back, 22, currently applies his trade at Old Trafford, where he has been since the tender age of eight. He briefly worked under Farke whilst on loan at Norwich during their 21/22 campaign, which obviously didn't end well. Leeds are keen to find a ready made replacement for Junior Firpo, whose days at Elland Road could be numbered, if recent media speculation is to be believed. Unfortunately, the former Barca No 3 is carrying a knock which has kept him sidelined throughout pre-season. Brighton were heavily linked with a £15m move for Williams last Summer, but nothing materialised in the end. He caused a stir on social media back in 2020, when he was accused of contacting a 15yo girl, an accusation he vehemently denied. please log in to view this image Cooper set to maintain Captaincy Leeds stalwart Liam Cooper looks set to maintain the Captaincy at Leeds Utd, after impressing Daniel Farke during pre-season. The Scottish International, who turns 32 later this month, will have spent a decade at Elland Road, come May. It was rumoured that he would be surplus to requirements following relegation to the Championship, but like he has always done, has fought back against his critics. Max Wober originally was given the Captains armband at the beginning of pre-season against Manchester Utd, before turning his back on the Whites. please log in to view this image
Morning all We’re being linked with a varied assortment of defenders and attackers, I’m hoping we get at least one over the line before the weekend arrives, I’d not expect them to start on Sunday mind you.
Only ever remember seeing Williams in that season with Norwich and thought he looked good. Wouldn’t mind this one if there is any truth in it.
Williams and Wan Bisaka were seen as the best young full backs in the country not long ago, but manager merry go round at old toilet meant telles was purchased and Williams moved out on loan. Bisaka sidelined too but now Ten Hag wants Bisaka but bought a left back. Williams by all accounts has played great in pre season but isn’t going to be in the squad. A no brainer this if we can get him, lots of experience and still only 22yo
The Rutter question is massive. If FARKE thinks he won’t make it as a striker and gets rid of him, it will be a further nail in the coffin for the 49ers who were part of the decision making process when splashing £35m on him. Orta cannot be solely to blame he may recommend but owners and board of which Marathe was a big part have to sanction it. My own view is that he should be kept here and go on to show the fans and the league what he can do. Been too much shooting your own foot off at this club the last 2 seasons
On the captaincy if Adams is staying it should be him, end of. If Adams is going then maybe it should be cooper with Cresswell as vice captain. This surely must be Coopers last season with us, especially if go up
Remember Paraag in his pr presser saying though how little say he had in running of things and had to sit biting his lip at directors meetings. Wonder was that the truth and they couldn't believe the deals that were being done at the time or is he now merely covering his American ass
Morning all. I think Rutter has two problems with this verbal agreement. One, there’s nothing written into his contract and two, the person he agreed it with is no longer employed by the club. Meanwhile Southampton have turned down £30 million for Ward-Prowse and £50 million for Romeo Lavia. So they either get top money or I guess the players knuckle down and get on with it. None of this loan nonsense.
Little say? Who was it who stopped the Harrison sale to Leicester even though the player was in Leicester at the time. Doesn’t add up does it. If the club want to buy a player for say £10m the money has to be found so 56% comes from Radz and the other 44% from 49ers. In other words 49ers would want to understand the price, the thinking and the value of said player and had to agree it…
I think you only have to look at how getting the right DOF in and installing Hammond as a temporary one before any business was done and the lengthy non rushed process of getting Farke tells you Paraag wants to do this right
Does anyone really believe this nonsense that Rutter had a verbal agreement that was forgotten to be written into his contract. If true he needs to sack his agent, a £35m transfer and relegation clauses overlooked, I don’t think so. We’ll be believing stories written in The Sun and The Mirror next
well either that or he’s indecisive and drags everything out… here’s hoping it’s the smart and professional option
Stranger omissions have happened on legals in big deals in my experience.. and you do sometimes hear of non contractual, verbal agreements happening in football. But if it was meant to be in his contract and wasn’t..then you’re right. It’s sack your agent and lawyer time.
Agree to a point Doc. He was definitely deflecting and chucking Radz under a bus. However, if you’re the investor, there is an element of going along with things to get stuff done that you maybe would have done differently if at the helm. When it comes to signing off on players it’s up to the DOF to make the case for the signing. It’s not the owners job to understand whether Rutter is a diamond that needs polishing or a madcap throw of the dice. You hire someone who should know - and sack them if they keep getting it wrong. Which is what radz chose to do eventually.
I take it all with a pinch of salt anyway Doc. Most new owners spin the same old drivel to get gullible fans on board. How many times for example have we heard the line, " the fans are the real owners and we are merely the guardians looking after it" Right
