Thank God that's over with. Quite glad it's Barmby, he knows all the players and obviously he's played under plenty of decent manager. I think it's a very good decision by the board, and as TWF said they can't really lose. UTT
we'll soon be on nicks back if we lose our next couple of games. id much rather have nick as assistant manager and bring in a more recognized & experienced manager. surely we can afford to 'buy' the contract out of a championship manager or a good lower league manager.. anyway good luck to pearson. end of the day he's a bloke who's gone for another job with better money and better prospects, cant knock him for that.
I for one, will not be on his back straight away. I believe this to be a very wise move. It buys the board time to find a suitable candidate if needed, Barmby probably won't feel too pressurised as a caretaker and could easily go back to being assistant if things don't work out and they bring someone else in. It's almost as if you're writing him off already!
Good work from the Hull board to give Barmby a chance. He's obviously shown something in the last week on the training ground to suggest you're in rush to get a permanent manager in. Given the people he has worked under during his career, there is no reason why he cant be the 'next' Paul Lambert (in terms of a guy who has played under a lot of experienced and talented managers and can bring that experience into his own management style)
Usually when a new manger comes in, it is because the last manager has not got the results and the team is low on confidence. In this case Nick is taking over a team that was on the up, which hopefully will give him the start in management he needs.
Just wonder how long Nick will be given before the pack of wolves start circling for his blood if a few results don't go our way?
