Not sure if this has been mentioned but if we have to bring in two strikers I'd be happy with Piroe obviously, and Billy Sharp - for a season; not as a starter but knows this league better than most.
I think it would be very naive of the club to rely on Armstrong. Sure; he bossed the championship last time. But he’s been garbage for ages now. I think he will have an OK season but I don’t want our promotion hopes resting on him tbf. We really need someone who is much more of a focal point for the team. If we play both Che & Armstrong I think it could be OK. But I don’t want either of them up there on their own. They have proven that they aren’t up to a lone striker role (which I believe RM prefers? Could be wrong though)
If RM plays the lone striker system then that striker needs to be a connecting focal point. It's worked wonderfully for us in the past based on the striker being able to hold up the ball, bring the midfield and wide forwards into play and then attack the box. Attributes required are a good first touch, strength, vision and positioning in the box. For me, pace is not a necessity. We've had these players in the past (Lambert, Pelle and to a degree, Ings). If they are combined with technical wide forwards then the front 3 can be devastating. Adams has shown glimpses in the PL of being able to do it and I think could do it in the Championship. I don't think Mara, Tall Paul or A.Armstrong could. I don't know much of Piroe - is this his style? Is this how Burnley played JayRod last season? One of the very best at this role is Harry Kane and I hear he's ready to leave Spurs
What is the obsession with bringing back past it old players? First Fonte, then Schneiderlin, now Sharp. No x3 for me.
Fonte was the only one I'd take back, because he's still playing at a high level and would provide great leadership at the back. Obviously not happening but the other two definitely not. Morgan is a shadow of his former self.
It was just a thought. Some more experience could be useful... Saying that, I'd much rather see Dom Ballard given game time.
I think SR deserve a lot of credit for standing their ground. By all accounts Ankersen is not one for budging on player valuations. I do like we are refusing to be bullied by Liverpool over this.
I'd understand if it was only Liverpool in for him but almost all of the top clubs in England have shown interest. Liverpool acting as if they hold all the cards but they really don't. Hopefully Chelsea come in and pay what we want.
That's definitely where we have an advantage when it comes to negotiating. The longer Liverpool **** around, the more likely it is another club comes in and meets our asking price.
Liverpool have literally just received over 50mill for Fabinho and Henderson. Trying to mug us off isn't going to work.
