Once again, just because a deal has moved quicker than another one does not mean it was a priority.

Huggins is a left back and is consistently injured

If there’s a chance to get this lad in for reasonable outlay, we’ve got to take it. Ridiculously good.

Be sad to see Gooch go given how good of a servant he’s been all these years, but some do need to leave - and I’m never comfortable when he’s playing in a four-man defence.

Hume into defensive midfield is a really interesting one. All the attributes. Great versatility

The club could’ve been presented with a chance to bring in a quality player that’s too good to refuse for all we know. Having proper options at full back instead of people playing out of position is surely a positive.

You can’t really turn your nose up at better players who would improve the team because we have players that we like.

Digging around on Transfermarkt, Dagba played a good chunk of games at RM for Strasbourg last year. He played against Barcelona, Bayern and a bit against Man City in the knockout stages of the 20/21 champions league for PSG. Valued on there as £4.5 million and was as high as £18 million in 2019.

Yes,I agree with that. Any opportunity to improve the squad is good.
I think I'm focussing more on the need positions to fill... in my view,.midfield and striker.Right back didn't seem a now-need.

Just been reading there he can play either side. Only signed a new contract last season with PSG after being linked with a few premier league clubs and Dortmund but has now fell out of favour alongside a host of other players ie Mbappe, Wijnaldum, Draxler, Paredes.

Not sure what’s gone on there but they’ve been trying to force players out since last summer.

I’m still sceptical because this would be a mental transfer but last year PSG must’ve thought he could still reach a decent level if they offered him a new 3 year contract when clubs were circling. Wouldn’t be surprised if he left with a buy back inserted.

You can see the plan. We want nearly all players to cover a host of positions. Probably only our GK, CBs and striker who'll play just the one role. Great to see. Also good that we're still focusing on the long term. Last seasons performance could have triggered some into a shift towards hoying money at promotion.

Colin Todd, Colin Suggett, Colin West, Colin Pascoe, Danny Collins...

Yes,got it! I was thinking our budget would be limited and we should concentrate on the obvious areas of need.....defensive mid and striker.
I'm not at all suggesting that if we see an oppportunity to improve the squad we shouldn't take it.

    TRANSFER ROUNDUP

Several former Sunderland players are on the move, whilst we have been linked with an exciting PSG defender...

    O'BRIEN TO SUTTON
Former Sunderland forward Aiden O'Brien has joined League Two Sutton United on loan from Shrewsbury Town. It wasn't too long ago when he scored a hat-trick against Blackpool and everyone wanted him to be the striker to carry us to promotion! The experienced striker failed to make an impact at Portsmouth after leaving Sunderland, and his Shrewsbury move clearly hasn't quite worked after a loan spell at Gillingham, followed now by Sutton. A footballer who was once playing regular Championship football with Millwall, he has dropped down to League Two despite reportedly impressing his Shrewsbury with his pre-season physical condition.

    MAJA TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP?
Josh Maja has been linked with a move back to England, reportedly closing in on a move to West Bromwich Albion. He scored 16 goals in Ligue 2 for Bordeaux last season, but has become a free agent upon the expiry of his contract - after Bordeaux failed to get promoted out of the French second division. After loan spells with Fulham and Stoke in recent years, it has been reported that Maja underwent a medical at West Brom's training ground yesterday and an announcement is 'imminent'.

    COLBACK TO QPR
Sunderland are set to face pantomime villain Jack Colback in the Championship this season, as the former Mag has joined Gareth Ainsworth's QPR. He's signed a two-year contract at the club after his release from Nottingham Forest. It's fair for Colback to expect a hostile reception on March 16 when QPR visit the Stadium of Light - perhaps Luke O'Nien can replicate Lee Cattermole's crunching tackle on the former SAFC and NUFC man...

    DAGBA TO SUNDERLAND?
Closer to home, Sunderland have surprisingly been linked with a move for PSG right-back Colin Dagba. The 24-year-old was on loan at Strasbourg last season but Sunderland have reportedly "opened discussions" to sign Dagba on a permanent deal, with both sides keen on agreeing a deal. Whilst right-back is not a priority (Trai Hume is covered by Lynden Gooch and Luke O'Nien), having a defender who played under Thomas Tuchel, Unai Emery and Mauricio Pochettino in Paris can only be a good thing. Sunderland accept they will have a lot of work to persuade Dagba to come to Wearside, as he has two years left on his PSG contract. Here's hoping Edouard Michut can put in a good word for us...

This just shows where we are going as a club. Linked with a PSG defender Absolutely fits the bill top class player who has lost his way a bit but is still young. Yea I’d love another striker but we are building and upgrading the squad at a scary rate Can’t have enough good players let’s just see what the squad looks like when the window closes
