NP was on sound of the City, we are only looking to possibly bring one more player in, so even if we sell Scott we won’t be buying more players as the wage bill is already as high as it can be, said he knows we are short in the keeper area, reading between the lines a keeper may well be the one player we’re looking to bring in.

Possibly one more player to come in before the season seems a little underwhelming to me as I was expecting way more than we have done with player shuffling. I fully understand the need to cut the wage bill as it was stifling us but I seriously question our ability to look at the overall picture and see the reality of why we consistently fail to deliver the goods in terms of bettering our squad. The job can be done with lesser known players and you only have to look at the teams that have got promotion over the last 10-15 years to see that fact, but as always we just don't get it for some reason or another and it frustrates the hell out of me. Leaving the goalkeeper as your last thought so late in the summer transfer window smacks of incompetence in my books, and expecting miracles with our very suspect shot stopping department borders on football mismanagement rather than building a team to get priority #1 fixed. Going into 2023/24 with the current squad available doesn't fill me with confidence and Pearson coming out with such a statement is starting to make me very uncomfortable, to say the least and despite my faith in Nigel I must confess I am starting to shake a little. Perhaps it will all come out in the wash, or at least I hope so.

How is this possible? We have essentially only bought in players from L1, so how have we reached our salary cap? Have we given 'healthy' wages on these contracts, we must have? All our old high earners from 'the 65' have gone, so how can we not afford more? We have broadly the same amount of fans per game, so income should be comparable, and even with £25m for Scott to balance the books, we still can't..... Something isn't adding up here, again...

I am really starting to question some of the comments coming from the club and perhaps some of my concerns about us going into the new season are starting to materialize. The comment about our wages bill being too high worries me because according to previous statements I thought it was under control and from my point of view here we go again with excuses why we can't meet any commitment made by management. When we started early in the transfer department I thought that finally we look like we mean business this time out and lo and behold we have morphed back into the usual Bristol City by trying to cover our lack of tracks to improve with excuses.

I don't think there is anything fishy going on, when he joined we were in dire straights, Gould and Nige together sorted it out,Alexander joined and continued the financial policy, the "65" with the high wages and long contracts are all completed and finished, debt reduced by a third, the fear of FFP misconduct is over, the tougher restraints continue and he is happy with his squad development as repeated below, things are looking better than for a long time, time will tell as always.

    * "As far as I'm concerned we've made as statement as a club and we've got ourselves into a decent position financially in terms of where we are, we've built a squad based on what our physical, but also our financial restraints are and so all those things together mean we're in a pretty good place, and we'll be stronger if we keep Alex in."

    * "I'm happy with the group of players that we have now, we've got a much better balance, the atmosphere within the club is, for the most part, very positive and this season gives us a real opportunity to show what we're about, so I'm looking forward to it," Pearson added.

"We've got a pretty well-balanced, pacey, energetic team, and I think that bodes very well for us in the Championship.

That’s an extract from his interview on sound of the city last night. I agree with you Wiz, nothing fishy, just a good financial policy. The last thing we want is to overspend again and end up back where we started from.

If I were Scott and had the choice, I’d pick Wolves over Bournemouth every time
Then again if I was Scott, I wouldn’t be talking sh’t on here ! <laugh>

just a tad puzzled why theres no talk about geting him to sign an extendid contract on an improved wage with a get out clause, otherwise i see this going one way, ie the hnm way and it all ends in tears.

There is overspend, and there is spending to match ambition - where are we now?? We used to be in the spend to reach ambition, and nearly made it before COVID. Now we seem to be in neutral.
We won’t compete this season, or for a while, if we have topped out our wage bill on what is a squad with a lot of kids, and players signed from L1 & 2 in it. That’s fine if SL and NP have settled for mid table stability in this division, but if they have, then say so, don’t mislead the fans!

This part of his interview made me twitch, is there some sort of negativity in the group he is covering up and who?

Maybe you are correct but Nige is always careful with his wording, he never says anything without intent,I don't think it's playing or coaching staff, I'm wondering if it's Jnr Lansdown sticking his oar in again, those two don't mix well.
