It's weird. England have looked much the better team across the series in my opion, albeit the first 2 tests were very even and could have gone either way. However, Yes the rain has definitely played a part in these last 2 tests, but the series looks like the Aussies will will 2-1
to win the games England give the opponent an equal chance to win. They have don't actually have to but they do. Gareth southgate wouldn't never ever allow such messing. "tournament cricket" is what he'd say, I believe Gareth is managing the Australian team BTW.
Never in doubt **** moaning about bazball and people getting out etc, that’s arguebly the best series of cricket since 2005. Stuart Broad an absolute legend. What a hero
Just such a shame about old Trafford. Only thing could have made it better series was going into this game with it tied 2-2 but that’s being picky.
Would have been unbearable tension and great test cricket no doubt. Ahh well, the series offered much and was really enjoyable.
If we weren't so under cooked at the start of the series feel sure we would have regained the ashes Never a popular view but i think the Aussies have been decent "sports" this season .
Been like that for every series for at least a decade. The calendar is so full, there are no/little warm up games. We're terrible for every first test of a series at home.
I wonder how much the test champ game had an impact for Australia as well. That game v India was a nice warm up for ashes and win the first 2, but then by the end they were flagging a bit more and lost 2 of last 3?
I think thats the really important point. leach out for alli was enforced Robinson wasn't right, Anderson as not right, wood was not fit. I honestly think the pitches were offering more and the final 3 tests were a harder contest. I think Australia will really regret that first days batting they put in of antibazzball. any sort of regular test batting might have delivered a test win there
They won’t - it’s not the Australian mentality the way I see it Saint would have loved that series if he was into cricket (no idea if he is). England are claiming to be happy - looking at the coverage - you would think we had won Australians will be fine and even happy Their objective was keep hold of the Ashes I am not saying which I believe to be right as my enjoyment was halted by the weather but - for me the Ashes has definitely underlined the difference in mentality between the Aussies and us when it comes to sports that the Aussies take seriously. once they had retained they didn’t seem bothered too much saw a lot saying they will want to be the first team that won in 20 years but they aren’t bothered too much about that imho no matter what is said by whoever Their objective will always be retain the Ashes - do whatever it takes - win if possible but defo retain.
No. I think if you look at his stats over the last couple years have been as good as they have been. I think maybe he’ll have a limited role and maybe more resting over a series, every other game but guy is still picking up wickets has just had a poor series. If every player was dropped after 1 poor series then 90% of the team wouldn’t be playing. Whether he goes to India were need more spinners maybe not. Don’t think he’s an automatic first choice but think he has a role to play still
Sorry that post is one big contradiction. You’re saying Australians take it seriously no matter what. Win at all cost no matter how boring play etc. Then turn around in same post saying they weren’t bothered about last game and fussed about winning? Yes retaining the ashes is important, but all teams go in to win series. Being first team to win series in England for 20 years was a big deal and I think every single won of them would have wanted to win as much as England players. The reason england are happy is because they have played cricket exactly how they wanted to. They want to entertain. Test cricket is dwindling from supporters and players and Ben stokes is a huge advocate of it. And he wants to make test cricket as entertaining over 5 days as t20 is over 4 hours. This series, plus the one v Nz and one b Pakistan he made sure crowds were entertained. Yes overral they didn’t win the ashes, but for some rain in Manchester they probably would have won it 3-2. How often do we hear people talk about football and say I’d rather we played attractive good football and lose then sit back play boring stuff for a 1-0 win every week.
