Good Morning. It's Tuesday 1st August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Harwood-Bellis on Leeds radar

Fresh from Euro U21 success with England, Manchester City starlet Taylor Harwood-Bellis could be on his way to Elland Road. The centre-back spent last season on loan at Turf Moor, where he made 32 appearances. He was expected to join Burnley this Summer, but the Clarets were unwilling to meet the £15m valuation.

West Ham have been credited with an interest in the 21yo, but Leeds will be able to offer first team football, which will obviously appeal to the Stockport born youngster. Leeds were thought to be plotting the capture of Nat Phillips from Liverpool, yet after being knocked back for a loan move, speculation for the 26yo, has dropped off.

    How FFP will effect Leeds

Now that Leeds find themselves in the Championship, the rules regarding Financial Fair Play (FFP) are a lot stricter than they were in the top flight. Over a three year cycle, Premier League clubs are permitted losses of £105m (£35m each season), whereas outside the confines of the elite, that figure is slashed by 63%. This means Leeds are allowed to lose £39m over a three year cycle (or £13m per season) as long as shareholders cover £24m of these debts (actual investment via share purchases rather than loans), otherwise the club are only permitted losses of £5m per season. Leeds figures have been adjusted due to the time they have spent in the top flight.

If Leeds buy a player for £5m, you spend £5m cash, get a £5m asset (Players are assets, not expenses). That is if you pay in cash. So FFP impact is zero. If you pay say £2m cash, and the other £3m in installments, you spend £2m, get a £5m asset (the player) and also an £3m liability (you still owe £3m). Again, FFP impact is zero.

As far as (P&S) Profit and Sustainability is concerned, players values depreciate every year. In essence, for every year a player remains, the club are gradually writing off the initial cost of the asset, helping clubs stay within the FFP limitations.

If we take Arronson as an example. We signed him a year ago for £27m, but if we were to sell him now, we might only be able to recoup £18m. The American International has four years left of his five year contract, so his depreciation has fallen by 20%.

This gives a £9m loss, less the depreciation of £5.4m, which would give Leeds a FFP loss of £3.6m. This could be the reason why Leeds have loaned so many players out this Summer, instead of trying to recoup what they can!

Coventry play hard ball regarding prized asset

Leeds Utd will need to dig deep if they are to persuade Coventry City from parting with their prised asset. Gustavo Hamer is about to enter the final year of his contract, but Mark Robins, the Sky Blues Manager, is in no hurry to see his midfield general leave.

Coventry suffered play off heartbreak at the end of May, after being beaten on penalties. Hamer contributed 11 goals and 10 assists last season, and was a major part of their success. Robins admitted that Hamer has had his head turned this Summer by all the media speculation, and have so far rejected all offers which have come in.

“The honest answer is yes, we have had offers but they haven’t been acceptable. That could change, who knows. He’s a top player, there’s no doubt about it, and other clubs covet them and put things in his head and that’s something that you can’t remove from his head." “I think really what I would like to see is us finish our recruitment and then see what’s what, but ultimately it’s his decision.”

    Morning all

Either Hamer or Harwood-Bellis would be amazing, both would be unreal.

FFP regarding the loans, if we win promotion not a single player will return, the fans hate them, Farke isn’t stupid enough to rip apart a dressing room, their wages will go back up, they’ll stunt us. We’ll need to ship them out and clubs will know this, it will be a fire sale all leaving on the cheap.

This is another reason why we need to build a squad this season who are not far off being PL ready. If we were to capture the likes of Harwood-Bellis he could be a £50m guy next season with promotion

Morning all. Seems to be so many ways of reading ffp regulations it's hard to get your head around it. Safe to say we should be ok if we give all our players away for nothing whenever they want to leave and replace only one or two of them. Meanwhile the Chelseas and Cities can spend as they wish and the Evertons can lose whatever they want. Can't beat a level playing field eh

    Good morning everyone
    Not long now.
Ristac, nail on the head with that last Word Unreal, because that's exactly what it is, this is Leeds were talking about, we don't do exciting logical signings to walk straight into the first team to make an immediate impact, so neither will happen, sorry to say.
My take atm is what you see before us is what you get till at least January, would be most shocked to see a marquise signing at all, let alone two :(

Starting to get the buzz again. new season fresh start in all that. the prem is gone but hopefully plenty of wins to cheer us up. not surprised with some of the outgoings it's life when you drop a division but like I said a few month back if any players I would of liked to of kept from last season Wober,Adams,Sini we so far have managed to keep 2 of them. Happy Gnonto is still here but we have another month to get by to safely say who is going to be still here at least till new year. If i was being honest I thought we would of had a few more new bodies in by now. still worried about our defence centrally & LB. still worried we don't have a goal scorer but sometimes things just click we could have a few academy gems in the background waiting to make a name for themselves. Cresswell,GRAY,Drameh,Gyabi,Joseph who all could take this league by storm but patience is still needed, we can't heavily rely on them. I highlighted Gray as he looks the dogs bollicks I'm sure we will see quite a lot of him this season I don't like bigging people up but he could be our most expensive asset in the near future he looks top bracket. Hopefully this month we will see a few more quality additions because we honestly still need them but I guess we have enough to start our season..
When this month is over and all the playing staff are all sorted in's and out's we will see where we really are. at present we are defo top half but I wouldn't say we have a squad that is going to walk promotion YET!
MOT let's get back into it!

    ———-—- Darlow ———
    Drameh Cresswell Cooper Byram
    ———- Ampadu - Adams ——
    Summerville - Rutter - Sinisterra
    —————— Bamford ————

    Subs
    Meslier
    Ayling
    Struijk
    Firpo
    Gyabi
    Gray
    Joseph
    Gelhardt
    Greenwood
    Poveda
    James
    Gnonto
    Harrison

    If the window closed today, tell me you’d not fancy that team for top spot, I think the reserve 13 would be good enough to beat half the teams, again imagine a front line of;
    Harrison Gnonto James Joseph

You're on a wind up today I see <laugh><laugh> or you have zero respect for any of the other Championship teams. Farke saying we need minimum of 70 goals. That lot hasn't ten in any one of them. Might finish top of league 1 Ill grant you <ok>

Not sure about top, but certainly top six, as is well discussed on here, till we get an out and out goalscorer, top two imo out of the question, as you would need a good contribution of goals from elsewhere and that's where we will struggle as none of the above, are shall we say prolific.

Sinisterra could get 20 if he stays fit. That's a big IF though. He'll be the best player in the Championship if he stays.

Either Harwood-Bellis or Hamer would be awesome buys, but, in turn would almost wipe out about a third (15m) of our 3 year FFP allowance.

Obviously the sale of Meslier for circa £25m, would turn that around. We bought him for £6m, he's been with us (permanently) since 2020, so his asset value as far as (P&S) Profit and Sustainability is concerned, will be negliable!

Sorry mate, that team pisses this division, that’s just how I see it. I don’t expect those 11 to be the mainstay, some will leave, equally I expect some new faces in

You said ffp was based on 3 years accounts. 49ers are two weeks in the gig. Why not worry about it next year or year after or have I missed something

I think a very comfortable 15 for Sinisterra and at least a dozen each Summerville and Rutter, if they’re injured equally as easy for Jack and Gnonto to chip in.

Bamford will miss a load but we’ll create enough for him to hit double figures, if not Joseph could be the surprise package. I think some are forgetting we’ll be up against Championship defences.

I think meslier would be under ten million but if Summerville is sold too he must be classed as homegrown by now. If Harrison jumps there is a decent amount to spend. Adams is just wiping out the debt we owe on him when he goes.
