Liverpool will easily make the top four? Brave statement! I think Chelsea and Tottenham are ahead, if you actually look at their squads.

Yes, yes they were, an unequivocal yes! They paid 35 Million, the 4th highest transfer fee ever, and the highest fee for a English player ever. All for a player who has played 6 months in the Premier League, and he has failed to to preform regulary since.. He cost more then David Villa, one of the top strikers in arguably the best team in the world if not ever.

The whole Chelsea argument is merely clutching at straws, they handed over 35 Million upfront for Andy Carroll an unproven player at the top level, 35 Million, imagine what talent they could have got with that if they had waited!! I think most LFC fans would even admit that!

Don't think the question was will they finish in the top 4, it was can they. They can still because they are in striking distance at this stage. The poster was writing off their chances, I do not believe that is correct at this stage.

Yes they paid over the odds but whichever way you look at it, it was funded by Chelski paying way over the odds for Torres. There probably is 15m in value between them. Therefore Liverpool have not lost out at all on the balance sheets. They have a cracking young striker also.

Yes I dont disagree that they definitely have a chance, however it won't be "easy" as you mentioned.

Im sorry but the question was whether they were robbed, they paid 35 Million for a Unproven striker at the top level as I said the 4th highest fee ever, whether they can afford it or not it is irrelevant.

"Easily" was maybe not the correct word to use, simply meaning at this stage they could easily still end up in the top 4.

We'll have to agree to disagree on them being. If the Torres deal was taken out of it, then yeah they've been robbed. I just think it was a unique situation where all three clubs knew the crack, and one ended up out of pocket. That was defo not us, and Liverpool only had an outlay of 15m all told. I'd have paid 15m for Carroll because I rate him.

Ba (free), Bale (£5m), Van Persie (£2.75m), Cabaye (£4.4m), Tiote (£3.5m), Hernandez (£6/8m), Odemwingie (£2.5m), Gallas (free), Marveaux (free), Van der Vaart (£8m), Barton (free), Wright Phillips (£2m), Taarabt (£1m), Walker (£3m).

All of those players in their last transfers went for £38.15m. Chelsea may have overpaid for Torres but Liverpool could have been alot smarter and spent that £35m better. I'm not saying they could have got Van Persie for £2.75m but they could be looking in Holland waiting to sign the next Van Persie. They now have a striker who doesn't suit their style of play & the fans will start to turn on because he cost £35m.

So your writing off Carroll at Liverpool after less than a year? That is insane quite frankly. The lad will fit into their style of play and he will be a big star for them in my opinion. He's only 21. There is no doubt they could have spent the money differently but they wanted Carroll, I understand why. I applaud the policy of trying to sign british players, Sir Bobby showed the value of this.
