Good Morning. It's Monday 31st July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Adams £20m activation clause causes stir around top flight Tyler Adams has an activation clause in his contract, allowing him to to be snapped up for around £20m, according to a damning article in 'The Athletic' over the weekend. During a season, full of disappointment and failure, the US skipper was Leeds only real shining light. Any hopes of survival, were soon extinguished when in mid March, he tore his hamstring during training. The severity of the injury led to non-invasive surgery, which was supposed to speed up his recovery. Four months on, and he is no closer to a return. Leeds plucked Adams out of obscurity. He has fallen down the pecking order at RB Leipzig, allowing Orta to sign the then 23yo for just £20m, plus add-ons. Considering his performances since then, it's difficult to compute that Leeds could actually make a small loss. Unsurprisingly, most of the top flight have jumped all over Phil Hay and Tom Bogert's article over the weekend. It remains to be seen who will be brave enough to activate the buy-out contract knowing he's in no fit state to pass a medical. please log in to view this image Stroll in the Tynecastle Park Leeds concluded their pre-season work out with a 1-0 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle Park, as Daniel Farke prepares his squad for the visit of Cardiff City this Sunday. Back to back wins, and clean sheets have been few and far between in recent times, which is testament to what Daniel Farke has been able to achieve, during his tenure. That's not to say Leeds opponents have been anything to write home about. Both Nottingham Forest and Hearts were disappointing to say the least, but you can only beat whats in front of you! Leeds have increasingly looked a more structured and correlated unit since Farke took the reigns earlier this month. They are passing the ball around much better, allowing more possession for longer periods of time as well as limiting silly mistakes. Distribution to the forwards will be one of their biggest tests this season, as will the marksmen who will put the efforts away. We're also painfully light in midfield, though, should Hamer sign, these concerns should disappear. The only goal in the game came five minutes before the break when Luke Ayling's speculative angled drive was turned into Hearts own net by a defender. Leeds were by far the better side, and could have scored a hatful, yet their opposition were poor, and didn't put up much of a fight. The proof of the pudding will come on Sunday. please log in to view this image Injuries to striking duo will not speed up incoming targets Injuries to Georginio Rutter and Patrick Bamford could give Daniel Farke a selection headache, ahead on Sundays season opener against Cardiff City at Elland Road. Rutter appeared to suffer a muscle problem in his side, and was substituted (for Bamford) midway through the first half. With ten minutes remaining Bamford went down, briefly clutching his hamstring. Rob Price, and his medical team, rushed to the pitch, and signalled a change in personnel. After the game, Daniel Farke was quick to play down the injuries:- "A muscle injury in his core,"[Rutter] "After movement, we hope it's not too bad, we have to wait for the assessment, it's too early to say something. But anyhow, a core muscle I think. "It seems to be like a hamstring injury [for Bamford]. It's more or less the same. We have to wait for the assessment. Something happened after the sprint and we have to wait for the assessment." Asked if the injuries could bring forward Leeds transfer plans, Farke replied:- "No because I don't think it will affect our transfer plans anyhow because I don't think it's unbelievable long term injuries," "It's not like an ACL or something like this where you're a month out so we hope that's not too long. "It could obviously affect the first game, let's be honest and this is also what the Championship is all about. You play every three days. And if you miss two or three weeks anyhow then it could be quite quick - four or five games - so we hope for the best right now. In general, this type of injury happens in football sadly and we have to accept it." please log in to view this image
Morning all I'll be surprised if we lose Adams before the window is shut, £20m is a lot to gamble on someone's fitness. We've done the preparation without him so if he is fit to play sometime after that window shutting, it is a bonus. If we get any new signings over the line before the weekend, I can't see them starting, a place on the bench at best. Cresswell or Struijk at CB and Hjelde or Byram at LB were the only two spots to fill before the strikers got injured Striker position is a pain, I guess it's Joseph or Gelhardt starting, I'd be tempted to play Gnonto as the main striker myself
Morning all. Looking forward to competitive football at last. Seems an eternity since that damn Spurs game. Were Hearts and forest awful or did we make them look that way. Who knows? Neither looked terribly interested
Teemu Pukki 2018/19 29 goals 2020/21 26 goals I don’t think Norwich were the best ‘team’ in the league on either occasion they got promoted… they got out of jail with late goals on a ridiculous amount of occasions in 2018/19 and Pukki hit his 29 goals from a similar no of opportunities than Paddy’s 16 goals the year we went up. Point is, others chipped in but pukki’s goals got Norwich promoted twice. As our team looks right now, we don’t have an out an out goal scorer… We’d have to share goals around. Not saying we can’t do that, but how much would you pay for Piroe?
Gnonto did tear Cardiff a new one in the cup last season, some players have teams they do well against, worth a try.
I’d always rather win than lose pre season and we looked good… but it’s meaningless. Most managers are trying things out and it’s secondary to fitness so you don’t know how leggy the opposition are. But Forest were the worst footballing side in the PL last season and hearts play in a pub league so as Farke says… no dancing on the tables yet.
Tyler Adams has an activation clause in his contract, allowing him to to be snapped up for around £20m, according to a damning article in 'The Athletic' over the weekend. So what activates the activation clause? Just a £20M bid or something else is needed too? Or is it all just BS.
Morning well it is what it is. I still think we have a lot of work to do on the pitch. Have we improved the side for the new season defo not but were we expected too with a drop in leagues?. We still have the same defence which wasn't good enough then because the players weren't good enough but they have a drop in grade so some may cope better but most are not future proof. As on signings a keeper is a keeper and won't do much on the playing side but we snapped him up at on a very good bargain price. Ampadu looks a improvement in what we had but time will tell. LBack we have been gagging for for years and we get Byram who Norwich didn't want so released him which tells you his story. If he's not good enough for them he aint good enough for us simple as. if he does get a contract I hope its not a big one. both strikers out before we start a game typical Leeds United luck. Bamford can't be relied on and Farke really needs to look at his last 2 seasons after playing down his injury. I feel like I'm moaning but a couple of decent pre season results doesn't hide over all the cracks which we haven't improved on. Can't see Adam's leaving yet with his current injury as clubs would still be running scared but once he's back and playing and if we start bad and going nowhere by xmas he will be looked at in the winter window for sure. in my thinking which doesn't amount to much lol I still think we need a LB,CB,CM,FW IE a goalscorer. A winger will go as I can't see James, Harrison, Sini, Summerville, Gnonto wanting to sit on a championship bench unless we play them all which won't happen. Happy the season is upon us but still think we have a lot of work to do to make a championship promotion squad. this league is brutal. Yes it's a fresh challenge and a good opportunity for some young lads to make a name for themselves Cresswell, Hjede, Gray, Gyabi. Gelhardt but these lads alone won't get us promoted. we still need top championship additions.
Goalkeepers, get rid of Meslier and start with Darlow with Klaessen as back up. Full backs Ayling, Drameh, Byram and new LB. Drameh will take over from Ayling when he gets fit again, Byram can cover both sides until new player arrives. CBS we lost 3 but have Cresswell, Ayling and Ampadu who can play rights side. Cooper and Struijk can play left but think we need a new CB too. DMs Ampadu and a new player backed up by Gray Greenwood and Gyabi AMs we need a top new player but have Poveda and Gray can play in there too as well as Harrison Wings we have Sinisterra and James and should sell Gnonto, Summerville and keep Harrison. We would have plenty of cover with Poveda and Harrison. Strikers. Sell Bamford, buy a new very good striker backed by Rutter and Joseph. Sell Joffy. Rutter can a,so play as a 10 or on either flank
Problem with wee Jimmy is that he has said he wants to leave and Palace are sniffing at replacing Zaha, plus Jimmy wanted to go back to Holland. He has a history of mouth Ineos in the dressing room
Yes i would sell gnonto & Summerville because i believe they want out. Gelhardt has a big heart but is just too slow. The only ones to bid for Bamford would be the glue factory. If he is not injured his feelings have been hurt. The only way is to pay him off and that is the problem. Orta stitched up the club by being clever with his long contracts four year deals are not the way a pro club should go. The thing is with Bamford he does not have to leave. He can stay while injured or just fooked permanently for the next three years.
