Well as we stand today I’d expect mid table but hoping additions in coming weeks will lift us higher than that. Depends on the additions of course
If we lose Harrison and Adams as expected then we should have £40M to make the necessary additions. Unless you mean keeping everyone and then add 3 more ?
Gnonto, Harrison or Summerville. 2 of can go. Meslier for 10 Mill if someone would pay. We need a left back, CM and striker. Minimum.
Doubt it would make much difference if people looked at other squads, they wouldn’t know the players. What many of the sides have to their advantage is continuity of management and a well-honed style/formula of play. We have neither, so it’s how quickly we hit our straps and shake off the losing habit. If it was just about who has the best squad on paper … the relegated sides would go back up every year. Though they’re always among the favourites it’s only a 1 in 4 chance historically that sides bounce back up. I want to see what our squad looks like at the end of the window, but sides I expect to have a chance are, the other relegated sides, boro, West Brom, Sunderland… as outsiders hull looked good under Rosenior late season to me… wouldn’t be surprised to see Ipswich have a good season, plus there’s always one of the many bang average mid table sides that miraculously pulls a good season out of the hat. Hey we could gel early and walk it, I’m not suggesting it’s a great league (it was a poor championship after burnley last year) - it’s just not a foregone conclusion.
I need to alter my prediction program to take into account the extra 4 teams in the Championship so it will probably be the end of the week before I post my predictions. Unfortunately no fantasy full season synopsis, like last year, as really life is taking priority at the moment
WBA are broke, they’ve lost several and will lose more before the window shuts, they have no chance. Sunderland haven’t spent much but they’ve a decent squad, any average coach would get our lot top 6 without much effort, Farke seems much better than that, I honestly believe we’re going straight back up as champions. 5-0 win this weekend will settle nerves
Agreed. The squad as it stands is obviously not good enough for the PL but will win the Championship. Plus the fact the manager knows what it takes to win promotion from this division.
I seriously don’t get the concerns for the season ahead mate. We were poorly managed last season and the likes of Aaronson, Roca, McKennie were not good signings, Meslier had a stinker, there isn’t a team in the championship even close to our attacking lineup. We know we’re weak in midfield, that will be corrected, Sinisterra, Summerville, Gnonto who has a better three than those, add Jack, James and Rutter then throw in Adams (who’s got no choice but to stay due to injury). This is our reset season where the U21s will develop with us, I’ll give us a month to settle properly but I’m confident we’ll not need it
Many of the sides that had good seasons last year did it with loans. Sunderland and Boro two examples. They may struggle if they aren’t able to replicate the success of those loans. But it’s not all down to squad value. I listed sides who could have a good season not who will have a good season. Last season’s two clear favourites with the bookies were Norwich and Watford. It wouldn’t surprise me if we hit our straps early and went up as champions. It just isn’t a forgone conclusion in my opinion, wouldn’t be very Leedsy either would it.
Totally agree with that one. One day it would be great to experience like that instead, but as you say, we never do it the easy way!
