Not sure what point Ron is trying to make, I rmember being racially abused in the shed when I started going regularly, late 70's. I also remembered having to walk past the sellers of British Bulldog everyweek, even some of the guys I went to school with bought them. Once when I was walking along the back of the shed on my own, 3 or 4 guys going the other way spotted me and chanted, "there ain't no black in the union jack, send the ******s back", was I bothered, course I was but like Ron I was never going to let it out me off following my team. Besides, I got more racial abuse at school than I ever did at football. Times have changed, so have attitudes, there will be racists out there still of course but it certainly isn't so overt anymore and like Ince and Walker (except they have the benefit of knowing him personally) I have no doubt that Terry is NOT a racist in any shape or form. Having first hand experience of racism and abuse I know it is not something you can hide for long if that is how you feel and to have worked with so many racially diverse people in his career there is just simply, no way.
As a Black Chelsea fan (although far younger) I can also relate to the JT bit. Bottom line is, can anyone (regardless of race) swear on oath that they have never made a racial slur or joke? Bear in mind this is in the heat of the moment. JT is an East London lad, a very cosmopolitan area and has worked around Black people all the time and done many things for charities and to promote anti-racism (Kick It Out). If people want stories of real racism I could tell you many. There is a big difference between premeditated racist comments (Ron Atkinson) and a racist slur said in the heat of the moment as a retort (JT) When it comes to Chelsea, the lack of common sense with some people never ceases to amaze me
Agree: District. It is White qpr fans doing the **** stirring. Suarez allegedly said nig ten times; that is much worse but receives no press.
I am not a black Chelsea fan, but I am encouraged by you guys that are, that have taken a sensible attitude to the people that need enlightenment! I wont preach, but I trust that one day they will see the light!
if you want the reason that terry is getting more coverage than suarez i think it is for the following reasons 1) john terry is the england captain 2) the alleged victim is an englishman 3) john terry had previously been stripped of the england captaincy - the media were alwys going to raise this subject if terry was the subject to further allegations 4) it does appear that terry used the racist terms but it was taken out of context - this makes the story juicier than an allegation that cannot be backed up by video evidence just my views on why terry is getting more attention and not a statement about his innocence/guilt
