A fairly standard friendly performance - neat at times but all pretty relaxed going forwards. I must say that I've been just a bit underwhelmed by Delap during the friendlies but hope he's going to step up in the league. Overall I think this does look a promising City team though and I'm particularly impressed by Slater's steady improvement - his change of pace is something we've been lacking for a while.
I can see what he's trying to do LR, but the difference today against a vastly superior team was evident. When they put the foot on the gas thats the difference. Everyone has said, this season of all seasons is going to be difficult at best, every manager will have us sussed before we kick a ball with the style of play. Sure, we'll score a few goals like today but few will be the operative IMO. Christie looked woeful today, someone people have put faith in for this season.
Positives: We managed to frustrate a good team with some high quality players. Vinagre looks decent. Tufan and Slater are more than ready for this season! Negatives: Kit is orange. Looks ‘orrible. We are still lacking going forward. Need Connolly in (and starting) for that bit of extra spark.
what concers me about connolly is that - somewhat ironically, since i've just noticed your username - he appears to suffer from the problem duane darby suffered. which is that he doesn't score for ages and then gets a bucketful in a single game.
Below par typical pre season game one week before the big kick off. No-one risking injury which is understandable, so not a tackle from both sides throughout the game. Didn't stop the French from rollling about at every opportunity though. Some tidy football from both sides, so a fair result at 1-1. Tufan finished off a nice move and Nantes carved us open about 10 minutes later with about their only serious attack. So cannot read too much into the performance at all. Saw Vinegar? for the first time, nothing special to be honest and the only time he got himself forward, Rosenier immediatly took him off and the new winger, Lokilo? Slight lad, couple of nice touches, but to early to judge him on that cameo appearance as a late sub. Attendance just over 4,800. Didn't like having to pay £3 extra for buying my ticket on the day of the game either. But moan of the day is reserved for the 'ground safety officer' who decided to close the gates so people couldn't leave past the North Stand after the game, There were six away fans. I was told by the 'supervisior' that it was his decision on 'health and safety grounds' and also a dummy run, what ever that means. To inconvience hundreds of people after a game on health and safety concerns for six people at a friendly game is pure madness.
Comfy if not boring performance. Few flashes of some really neat play and other than their goal I never really thought they threatened either. I dont know if its confidence but I would really like to see Delap just put his laces through one. The shot he had when he was offside had real power. My only minor grip. People judging Lokilo off 20 mins are daft. No injuries so solid friendly
Decent game, decent performance. They weren't a bad side. I think that might be the starting XI for Norwich, but we'll have to be more clinical in front of goal if we're getting anything out of Game 1. Subs will play a massive part of our season. Choosing the right ones, at the right time. I can't see a huge lot to get excited about, or worried about. But it was a friendly. My 8th prediction sticks for the time being.
