Yes i agree about the two signings but where are the rest our super recruiter had lined up. Darlow signing on a Friday does not give him any time to be ready for the hearts of hibernian game.
The point about Poveda is that he had become almost the forgotten man and more or less written off by most. So if he adds anything to the squad and finally fulfills his undoubted potential it’ll be a huge bonus. And maybe he could be that creative number 10 that we need and Farke likes to have in his team. A sort of Hernandez/Saiz role.
If we were in the PL with this squad, I’d have already thrown in the towel. I look round other teams in this division and there isn’t anything to be scared of. Have a look at the transfer business of everyone in the league, nothing jumps out https://www.skysports.com/football/...ransfer-window-2023-championship-ins-and-outs
Exactly, Poveda under Farke already looks an improvement over Roca or Aaronson under the idiots in charge last season. I think everyone forgets this is the championship and the squad as it stands looks far more lethal than the squad that dominated this division under Bielsa
Only Leicester or Southampton have the potential to stop us getting top two. And even then I have doubts whether Southampton will be all that.
I feel Southampton will be the main threat, I don’t know why. Middlesbrough will also be a danger, as things stand, if the transfer window closed tomorrow we’d walk this league, we could give everyone a 6 point head start we’d piss it. However, I’m not expecting Adams to stay, one or two of Jack, Summerville, James, Gnonto to possibly leave making it much closer BUT we know we have more to come in. My view would obviously change next week if Drameh, Summerville and Gnonto all left but they haven’t yet so it’s not time for me to panic
Poveda looks fragile and very small and thin. I just don't see him surviving in the championship. Maybe Farke will manage the players better and rest players when needed.
I think we'll do alot of our business late in the window which is why I'm not really concerned quite yet. I reckon a winger or two will leave which will give us the funds to get a left back and whatever else Farke wants. Blaming the 49ers at this point is a waste of time. The FFP in this league is no joke. They can't just pile £100 million in to the transfer fund as you are only allowed to lose 33 million over a 3 year period. We'd just get points deducted and stagnate. It's all about balancing the books in the Championship. That's why I'd be quite content to sell Summerville and Gnonto for a combined £25 - £30 million if we can and then go for Piroe and Hamer. Unfortunately we have to wait for those outgoings before we throw £30 million at those players because if we don't then sell Gnonto and Summerville we are ****ed by the FFP and more likely headed to league 1. 49ers have a tough job and so far the signings of Ampadu and Darlow for a maximum of 8.4 million looks inspired business. I reckon we are just waiting for the dominoes to start falling elsewhere before we get too many more incoming. It might be that we have a busy deadline day.
These players we are bidding for may not be prepared to wait till late August. If we have bids for our players then get them sold pdq. Worst case is we hang on for a few million more and lose out on new players. Then we end up scraping the barrel once more. Or even worse more crappy loan signings who offer nothing. Let's face it we have had a huge amount of duds on loan.
If we are up against Southampton they are going to be cash rich because of the players they are selling and the prices getting. Ward-Prowse still could go for £30m+ as well as the kid Lavia at around £45m+ we just loaned our players out bringing in peanuts
Will Southampton sell as much merchandise as Leeds. Do they have a better sponsor/sponsors?. How much were they losing in the prem and what player fees do they owe. Do they generate more matchday income.. I doubt it. I saw them at Elland rd and they were worse than us.
I think Meslier out for £20m will be the start of it for us, I also believe it will depend on when Adams could pass a fitness test for a transfer out. Those two would be the £40m we would need, then we'll likely see one of Jack, Gnonto or Summerville depart. Each time I start replying to posts like this the anger levels towards Orta and the loans increases. Firpo another who could bring in some funds but I read today Real Sociadad can't afford him so the interest has ended
Questions about our defence: FARKE has said he wants Nat Phillips but Liverpool will not sell for less than £10m. Should we splash out? Real Sociadad have pulled out of buying Firpo due to the price. Quite a few Spanish teams would want him but all struggling for cash. Should we keep him and watch him perform in the Championship?
When Darlow announced Meslier will need to move on because Darlow will be the starter, so maybe Meslier will be gone within days, fingers crossed
Forget Phillips at that price and get Holgate on loan. Firpo would not be the worst LB in this division, sign Byram on a free and let the two of them fight it out. Against Forest there were a few reports saying James and Byram worked well together, it might be down to who plays better with who. If we have £10m to spend I'd rather us sign Piroe or Hamer I know we'd have to add some funds to that but again, we're up against Championship attacks not PL and IF we could start a game with a combination of 3-4 from Sinisterra/Gnonto/Summerville/Rutter/Bamford up front few teams would dare to go all out attack, throw in a signing like Piroe and we'll be facing 10 man defences
