Not exactly the sort of player we need right now, if I'm honest. Fine for the B-team, but as a first-teamer? Though I suppose if the club view Stephens & Bednarek as the experienced centre backs, then maybe not so bad, but can't help feel we need more experience there rather than an untried 19yo..
I'll say what I said last summer. These signings are great but if we just add youngsters we will be in trouble (as we found out). I am waiting until the end of the window before casting judgment.
What exactly do you know about him? He's older than Lavia when we signed him, same age as Tino. Why do you say he's not what we need? I'd say he's exactly what we need given how many CB's are going to be leaving.
I haven’t seen exactly how we line up under the new manager - just that there are three in the middle. So I put everyone who is likely to play there. If we have been doing a 4-2-3-1 with an actual number 10 then that becomes a slightly different question. I wasn’t suggesting they were all identical midfielders We would definitely be short in defensive midfield if both leave
He's free. He was on the verge of breaking into the Arsenal first team. Arsenal offered him a new contract, but he refused He's free.
Reading this, I can see why we beat off a lot of competition for him. He'll also be an excellent fit for Martin's style. Zach Awe 2022/23 - scout report (totalfootballanalysis.com)
We probably need two central defenders if we ship out all we should be - ABK, Salisu, DCC and Lyanco. Even if we keep Lyanco arguably. If he is the only signing in central defence and the first three of those go then I would share your concern But it is similar to the points others mentioned above - who can we sign in the championship who will be on the bench most games. We haven’t been able to get a backup defensive midfielder even when in the premier league. What experienced player who is any good is going to join a 4th choice CB - which I assume he will be. Again - if he is third choice I echo the concerns
Because I think we need more experience and seniority in the team. Particularly in such a historically weak area. We can't keep buying youngsters who've barely played any first team football. For every Tino, we've had a Larios or a Simeu, or for every Lavia, we've had a Bazunu or Edozie. We're just gambling again. And yes, he may well come good in time but now is not the time to gamble. All in my opinion of course.
Awesome Know nothing about him, but hopefully he is good on the ball as that is a real weakness across our current center backs and hopefully he can do the defending bit.
