So, he has officially confirmed his departure. Regardless of his performances, or rather occasional glaring mistakes, over the last couple of years, he's still a red legend. Wish him well, hope he goes somewhere and has a more relaxing last few years to a top drawer career.
Over and Over again, he’d pull off the impossible instinctive saves that you simply do not see anywhere else. He’s been doing it at the top level longer than most players’ careers. Amazing legend!
At the top of his game he was one of the best keepers in the game, but I think his performances of late have been too patchy. For me, his performances never recovered from his being dropped by Spain, that was the big turning point in his career
What I find crazy is this idea that keepers need to be good with their feet in a form of sweeper role. That wouldn’t be an accusation that I place on DDG. As a matter of fact, I don’t want a goal keeper fkin around as the last man with the ball at his fkin feet trying to dribble. If Onana joins and thinks that he’d be able to get away with that match after match in the premier league, he will get a rude awakening. The drawback that I see with DDG is that over the years he didn’t vocally control the line in front of him which then means that he has to save the day. It didn’t help him that we haven’t had cohesive back unit in a very long while, and when we did, DDG was the finest at doing his job whenever called upon.
Personally just feels like the manner of his departure leaves a lot to be desired. Seems a bit of a **** the way it's been handled by the club for a guy who gave us 12 yrs and played over 500 games.
Just been reading the player goodbys to de Gea and most were exactly what you would expect but this one from Bruno struck me as showing a bit of disgruntlement about his treatment and the way the end came. You will always be a legend at this football club ❤️ You know what I think about you and how much I will miss you bro ❤️ You deserved to say goodbye at the stadium with all the fans cheering you for all the beautiful memories Hope it's not an indication that things are strained between management and players.
Shame de Gea didn't stay on as competition for Onana, who I'm a little suspect of. Seen too many flash in the pan 'amazing' goal keepers, can't help feeling he might be one. And it would have meant Henderson finally ****s off for good. Shame.
To be fair ETH knows him of old so I don't think he has been plucked out of the ether or anything like that. Keepers are a strange old bunch - you don't know what they are like until you put them between the sticks, DdG a case in point, for those first few months he looked completely out of place.
lol, you haven't been a force in the league for the 10 years he's been your no.1. 1 lucky premier league champions medal in that time, and iirc that season he was dropped for Lindegard for being error prone. Funnily enough, exactly the same thing happened to Spain.
Winning almost every trophy equates to more than just the league, and we've won quite a lot during his time with us which makes your obsession and the need to always try and justify your ridiculous stance on DDG even more stupid. The only funny thing is that you think premier league champions medals are lucky. Your players must be rolling in them I suppose or perhaps just unlucky with that sort of arrogance.
It doesn't mean De Gea is any worse or better just because he happened to be at United during a, relatively, dry period. Schmeichel could have been, and arguably was, the best keeper in the world in his hey day, but the only reason he won so many trophies is because he was part of squads that featured Scholes, Beckham, Cantona, Giggs, The Nevilles, Stam, Irwin, Hughes, Bruce etc Look at Alan Shearer, one of Englands best ever strikers and he won a single title, Kane too, awesome player but has won **** all. De Gea kept Man United relevant for far longer than they perhaps would have been.....wasn't he their player of the year like 2 or 3 seasons running? He should go down as a United legend, and is one, in most United fan's eyes as far as I can tell.
He definitely is, yes. There was a time I'd have rated him our second best ever (behind van der Sar) but he did drop off over the last couple of seasons. Definitely a 100% bona fide United legend though, and I doubt there is a single United fan would say any different. For me this is the top five; Van der Sar Schmeichel De Gea Stepney Gregg
We've had some right calamities in the recent past - Barthez, Carroll as examples in my lifetime. I think Tim Howard was decent in his limited time for us. The CL mistake against Porto done for him but he went on to do well at Everton imo. Would've done even better behind a decent back 4, but then we got Van Der Sar so it was the right decision.
Had a good few special times with both those keepers, just VDS was, for me, the better all round technical keeper. Can't argue that Schmeichel and his era gave us some good times though, proper keeper. Never mind playing with your feet, this guy did it with his throws. Gary Bailey was also a favourite, and Les Sealey a proper nutter. Chris Turner was decent as well, he was after Bailey.
