It’s not taxpayer money, as Tfl is pretty much the only transport system in any European capital which receives no central government subsidy.

No point in trying to use facts on you.

When Boris was Mayor, TfL accrued around £7bn in debt through two spending initiatives in 2008 and 2015. Since then that debt has more than doubled to £15bn under Sadiq Khan. Most of that debt is in the form of bonds. Since the Pandemic, fare revenues have fallen substantially because of working from home amongst other things, reducing TfL’s ability to pay debt off.

Amazing how people in London seem to think that TfL is entirely self funding. <doh>

TfL receives a central government grant, funding from the Greater London Authority (GLA) precept set by the Mayor (Londoner’s Council Tax), GLA Business Rates Retention (London business rates) and also raises funds for infrastructure projects by issuing bonds. At the last funding review, government grant funding was set at £1.1bn until 2024. Just what is the difference between a grant and a subsidy?

So that means Labour didn't bankrupt the UK in 2008, as they had debt but it's grown exponentially since then. Nice to know <ok>

Yo are so wrong a quick look on google will help you

"We receive grants from the Government and the Greater London Authority. These grants are used to fund both operating costs and investments. In line with the Government's devolution strategy, a proportion of our grant funding comes from local business rates raised under the business rates retention scheme."
