If we do spend it up top then fair enough but Darlow vastly improved us. It remains to be seen who we sign up top to justify missing out, hope it’s not just Connolly and Lokilo with a young loanee…
irregardless they specifically quoted Newcastles demands for a fee as the problem, that was simply not true so yeah, egg on their face with that one.
Some of the comments on here are frankly embarrassing. Criticising the manager, owners etc. Get a grip ffs.
Don't forget Darlow doesn't need to leave Newcastle. Any deal he takes elsewhere will be on a very good wage, plus a hefty signing on fee. We can't just throw money around, only prem teams or parachute payment teams will have had the capacity to do it. Even Middlesbrough looked elsewhere.
"We can't just throw money around"...I think you've scraped the surface here? We threw too much around last year and now the chickens have came home to roost. We've got a fair bit of highly paid 'dead wood' lying around and we're having difficulty shifting it?
No embarrasment at all. Darlow was too expensive for us and it's as simple as that. Dress it up as much as you like but that facts are that signing him would cost us too much money. Either, transfer/signing on fee and/or wages, all added up to more than we were willing to pay, so we move on, let it drop.
Nobody seems to be taking into account from Darlows point of view, even if we stumped up the cash, he’d probably rather join Leeds anyway. And I maintain £30k a week on a goalkeeper is too much for us to commit. He is good but he’s not a particularly special talent, in his way to the top of the game where he will move on for a profit. There are loads of good goalkeepers out there who will become available for much less. I’m sure the scouts and management have plenty of other potential suitors which is why they decided to move on.
I know this is supposed to be 2023 but ...... https://sillyseason.com/money/salary/hull-city-fc-players-salaries-101466/
So we dont go after a player who has proved his abiliity and instead sign or persevere with players with a 25% chance of being worth the money lower mid table beckons
It could be 5,000 or 10,000 the point is no one on here knows the numbers for certain, they just throw them in there and some take them for gospel.
If you’re wanting wages, this website is better. They verify where they can and keep it up to date. https://www.capology.com/uk/championship/salaries/
Our total wage bill was £8m (for 162 staff), one of the lowest in the league. it must be about £20m now.
