Stoke will have way more wiggle room than we do anyway. Owner is wealthiest in the championship, bigger stadium with a higher average attendance etc etc. Birmingham I think have the same benefit we did last year. Good headroom with new owner and they sold Jobe Bellingham for an ok fee. In fairness they've been a sleeping giant waiting for someone to get them right again. The real ****ter is probably someone like Plymouth outspending us but it goes to show how one bad window can really **** up a few
The window has been exactly what we needed so far, a lot safer and boring. But all the players coming in improve us. If we add 3/4 more plus replacing any outgoings we'll finish the window with a stronger and more rounded squad than we had last season and that's job done.
At his Q&A session last season Rosenior hinted this is a 3-5 year project almost as he referenced Brighton and Brentford is the model being followed. I just think people largely are impatient so want it this year
It's definitely a long-term project and it's been made harder as we have to alter some of the business done last year but I'm pretty happy with the window so far. It's also easy to forget but Jones, Macca, Coyle, Slater and Vaughan have all signed long-term deals this summer too. It ain't exciting but it's really necessary and they've all got their best years ahead of them.
Yep, not disagreeing, I've been banging that drum for a fair while. Staggers me that we've pissed the KLP money and then some up the wall. In saying that, Stoke do have quite a large turnover, but I did think they'd be much more modest this summer with their own FFP issues.
Birmingham also got the Jude Bellingham sell on. Plymouth are run sustainably so have no losses to worry about per se from an FFP perspective (I'm sure they have a small loss technically speaking, I haven't actually looked at their accounts, but they're run very well).
Everyone chill. I can't believe Acun will be happy going into this season with just the additions to the team so far. Trust the process.
No argument here, merely a question. Haven't the expectations and time-scale came from the owner? Not once have I heard,or seen quoted by Acun or Kessler a statement to the effect that this is a long-term project?
They've sold Chong as well, so they've got plenty of cash. Ipswich have come up and tried to splash the cash but they've found it difficult and have missed out plenty of players.
They’ve actually said the opposite. They don’t have the patience for a 3-5 year project. They want, and I suppose need for FFP purposes, promotion to Premier League ASAP.
I totally forgot about the Bellingham sell on. That goes to show really that every team that has spent in the championship this window has a good reason Coventry - Sold Gyokeres Birmingham - Bellingham sell on Leicester - Parachute and sold Maddison/Barnes Saints - Parachute Leeds (will spend) - Parachute Even Norwich and Watford have gone for freebies and that's despite Watford selling Pedro for £30m. Bristol and Sunderland have spent a bit by looks of it but even Stoke have only paid a fee for 1 player
I'm chill. I know more are incoming and I believe the squad will be stronger this year. Hopefully we can shift some deadwood off wages as well
Across all the teams there's not a lot of money for transfer fees in the Championship as wages are so high. It's why the partnerships with Roma and Shelbourne are so important. It's about giving us an edge that nobody else has.
It isn’t so much about spending loads of money but about getting the majority of their key transfer targets in early. We haven’t really done that which indicates that we can’t compete with other Championship clubs when it comes to spending fees and wages this summer due to FFP or that players aren’t that eager to come here. Both of which are slightly concerning.
I would probably agree. I would bet we've missed out on one or two which has hindered things. It does also seem that PL teams are being stingier with loans this year as well at a quick glance I only count 7 which feels lower than usually at this stage. We are very much a club that players will hopefully love when they're here but convincing them initially is difficult I wonder if we cash in on the Roma connection this year
Of course they will, nobody wants to hear that the realistic aim is top 10. That doesn't create a buzz and that doesn't sell passes. They've clearly realised that you can't buy a few talents from Turkey and get promoted. The strategy has changed dramatically and I think they definitely understand how hard it is to come with sides with parachute payments. It feels like we've switched to signing players we can improve or put back into the shop window and that's absolutely fine. Regardless of what is said about LR, he's a good coach and improves players, we've seen that 1st hand with many of the domestic lads.
Yup. Regardless of what I post on here I never criticise or boo players on game day. It is absolutely pointless, helps nobody including the person booing. Blood pressure needs to be kept low for the majority of people posting on here!!
It seems Tom Nixon got a lot of praise, keeping Josh Windass quiet in Donny's friendly against Massive.
