Are we expecting Stuart Armstrong to leave? Not heard much either way but he strikes me as someone who would be valuable in this league if he can stay fit.

If we went into the season with something approaching Charles, Smallbome, Downes/Choudhury Charly, S. Armstrong and a couple of the u23s, I'd be very very happy with the options that would give us to control, create and score from midfield.

 

Stu used to be the only player that made us work as an attacking force. It's been a while since that's been the case though. He's injured more often then not, doesn't seem as motivated to be here, and just hasn't performed to that level very often at all for a couple of seasons now. He's 31, and in the last year of his contract. I'd be fine with him going, just not sure anyone will come in for him. Think he'd be a decent punt for one of the newly promoted PL teams or back to Celtic or something as presumably he wouldn't cost much.

 

There was talk of him going to Italy, but that seems to have gone a bit quiet recently.

Aren’t Downes and Choudhury very different players? One is more of a direct defensive midfielder and the other isn’t. I actually think that of all positions (especially if we are playing a three) then we are short in CM - especially defensive midfield

I’d almost like to see both come in (or two players) should both JWP and Lavia leave. Regardless of Charles signing. But I guess I’m not factoring in Smallbone’s return into the count now that I think about it

I recall Smallbone’s most effective game pre-injury being the one he got injured in where he played in an advanced role

What formation and style has Martin actually been playing? Has read like a 4-3-3 but I haven’t watched so I’m not sure how the forwards have been operating

What don't they understand about £50mill?

 

I think this will nearly seal the deal personally. It’s good that they’re concerned of the Chelsea interest as still no deal with Brighton on Caseido. I reckon if they get to £45 million with add on’s, the club have done pretty well.

 

If they're so worried about Chelsea's interest just give us the 50mill package we've been asking for. It's literally a few extra million.

This. It's not really about the extra few million for us now. It's more about sending a message that we will not be bullied into accepting offers for less than what we feel our players are worth.

I know his form plummeted last season, but he was consistently excellent before that for several seasons and it must be difficult to keep performing so well when everyone around you is so ****. He's more than good enough to be a starter for most PL clubs, and the fact that he can play both sides should make him even more desirable! I'm really surprised how little interest there seems to have been. Even more so given that he'll be relatively cheap given the year left on his contract. Bargain!
