Given how bad we were last season and the fundamental transition we need to achieve, it seems sensible to me to manage my expectations
I’m not proposing I can list all positions in the league, which is almost what you’re asking, but I’d rather expect less and hope I’m surprised in a good way
The Champ is a slog and we’ll have to be up for that
Also, I’m not desperate to get back in the EPL Immediately
I didn’t ask for all the positions in the league. Just for which sides will appear above us. Doesn’t need to be in order. Because it is one thing to manage expectations and even to be very disillusioned by last season. But it is another entirely to just completely ignore who else is in the league and just pick a place well outside the playoffs to complete the doom and gloom.

A prediction of 12th requires an assumption that 11 sides will finish above us. And if who those might be hasn’t been really considered and that position has just been arrived at because “we were awful last year” then I think querying it is reasonable

I feel no need to be accountable to you on what I deemed to be a ‘fun’ thread <doh>

I’m really not sure you’re taking this very important thread seriously enough

Predicting anything in football is a mugs game so I will pass on this as I haven't a clue what will happen other than I hope to be entertained and that we get promoted..

I was going to post my predictions, but felt anxious and worried they may not live up to the expectations of Greg, and the amount of research and justification required to satisfy his needs.

All I will offer is I think we are going to win more games than last season, and lose less games than last season. Im too anxious to give an opinion on the ratio of draws.

You are right about it being a mug's game, but since there's no money riding on it, there's nothing to lose. The very worst that can happen, is that your predictions are so amateurish and pathetic, so embarrassing, so ferociously bad, that you get the suffix -curse added to your name.

So, using a highly scientific and secret formula I’ve decided to suggest a finishing order for the league …

Perhaps a bit cheeky since I haven’t stuck my neck on the line but can the people who are saying things like 12th or lower list out which 11+ teams they think will finish above us - looking at last season’s championship?

Consider the top two were runaway ahead. And then those in the top twelve include several sides who either have or could well be losing one or more of their top attackers - Blackburn , Coventry , Sunderland , Swansea , Watford

Maybe it is just arrogance on my part but I would only confidently say Leicester , Leeds and middlesborough have strong chances of finishing above us. And that depends on how the other two relegated sides deal with their squads and pre seasons (and new managers)

Bottom half of middle table seems like it would take a disastrous set of circumstances such as all of our top players leaving with no one at all to replace them and not one playing before the window closes. But even if we sell JWP late on - he’ll play in all the games in august at least

I get the squad uncertainty but who are these dozen sides finishing above us? Obviously it is all a matter of opinion

Only just seen this.

My reasoning is I just don’t have any confidence in the current squad to be consistent at all. Think it will be a very patchy season where we don’t string results together with any regularity and ultimately finish about half way. On our day we will look good and a match for anyone but that won’t happen often enough and we will have a lot of those “1-0 defeat” games we had last season as well.

I can’t be bothered to list 12 teams who I think will finish above us, as I honestly don’t know, I just think we won’t get on a roll and lose/draw a lot of games we should in theory win and this will see us finish in mid table nothingness, despite our side on paper being better than most in the league.

That’s fair enough. Form and momentum is something we definitely don’t have

Yeah it was our main issue last year as well. I still believe the squad we had last year was better talent wise than 5/6 other teams and we should’ve stayed up pretty comfortably but the poor management decisions and absolute gutless mentality in the squad meant we finished bottom by a long way

Methinks Bristol City and Swansea will both finish higher up the table, while Norwich, Sheff Wed and Middlesboro will all finish lower.
