Less than 2 weeks until kick off so time for annual thread of predictions, so we can all laugh at how wrong everyone was apart from me. This year should be pretty hard as it stands as nobody has a clue what our squad is going to look like come September 1st. This is no excuse when you are completely wrong @tomw24

Answer the questions below and feel free to add anything else in you fancy

Finishing Position: 13th
Promotion (Y/N): N
FA Cup Round: 4th round
Carabao Cup Round: 3rd round
Player of the Season: Armstrong
Disappointment of the Season: Tella
Most improved player of the season: Armstrong
Will Martin see out the season Y/N: N

I'll do this maybe mid August.

I'm starting to think that Getting a top competent GK is going to be a huge difference maker in league positions.

Will not be possible unless we shift McCarthy. And I don’t think anyone is going to take him even for free

Perhaps a bit cheeky since I haven’t stuck my neck on the line but can the people who are saying things like 12th or lower list out which 11+ teams they think will finish above us - looking at last season’s championship?

Consider the top two were runaway ahead. And then those in the top twelve include several sides who either have or could well be losing one or more of their top attackers - Blackburn , Coventry , Sunderland , Swansea , Watford

Maybe it is just arrogance on my part but I would only confidently say Leicester , Leeds and middlesborough have strong chances of finishing above us. And that depends on how the other two relegated sides deal with their squads and pre seasons (and new managers)

Bottom half of middle table seems like it would take a disastrous set of circumstances such as all of our top players leaving with no one at all to replace them and not one playing before the window closes. But even if we sell JWP late on - he’ll play in all the games in august at least

I get the squad uncertainty but who are these dozen sides finishing above us? Obviously it is all a matter of opinion

Heart: 4th, promoted via play-offs, lads kick on and come 13th in Prem following season.
Head: 8th, ten years of ignominy, then return to the Premiership, but dog-fighting against relegation for the next 3 years before stabilising.

Going to go early and based on our current squad minus the seeming certainties to leave. Given our enormous squad and mid table PL budget anything outside the top 6 would be a massive disappointment..

Fighting all my negative instincts to vote with my heart.

I think that the squad will look unrecognisable come the end of September. A lot of the squad will have been moved on and I would be surprised if an of the better players will remain. My prediction is that the best players in the squad are going to come as a surprise and will not be obvious at this point in time. Most of last January's signings will have moved on and i can see some of the regulars who have remained slipping in to the sidelines. For a "wild card" prediction, I would throw out there the Adam Armstrong being marginalised and left of the side-lines as he continues to struggle to make an impression. I can see him going back up north. I also think we will off load Bazunu. Will Smallbone to be player of the season but subsequently sold next summer.

I think Saints will finish between 10-12th this season. Leicester will go straight back up think there is a lot to do at St Marys' before this can happen here. I predict we will get promotion next season by which time I think Russell Martin will have acquired a cult status after a rocky start until October. I can see us flirting with relegation for the first few months and before things start to click. This league will be too difficult this season but hopeful about 24/25 but which time the squad will largely have been replaced from the one that had just got relegated.

Given how bad we were last season and the fundamental transition we need to achieve, it seems sensible to me to manage my expectations
I’m not proposing I can list all positions in the league, which is almost what you’re asking, but I’d rather expect less and hope I’m surprised in a good way
The Champ is a slog and we’ll have to be up for that
Also, I’m not desperate to get back in the EPL Immediately
